...let me clarify what I said about ROMEX vs single strand wire in regards to safety...the ROMEX sheath is to protect the wire from nicks and abrasions...NOT to keep the smoke contained in case of a short...if the wires get hot enough in a short circuit situation to melt their coverings, the outer covering on the ROMEX will melt as well...codes require single strand wire to be in conduit to protect it from nicks, cuts and abrasions.......
