Newbie in Idaho

Postby afterburner56 » Sat Dec 08, 2007 8:43 pm

Hi Everyone,
Jeff here in Idaho. I'm building a Rimple on a chassis of my own design with 14" wheels from a 65 Mustang. I've had a great time searching junkyards and farms in the hinterlands of Idaho for the parts for my creation. I'm also learning how to weld. I'm looking forward to some teardrop gatherings this coming summer. Does anyone know if there are any close to Boise, Idaho? I'll be checking in with progress reports. Right now I'm cleaning up the wheels and painting them. I have most of the steel for the frame rough cut and ready to weld. I bought an axle from a trailer supply company, so it will be ready to bolt on once the frame is complete. Any suggestions on the type of wood I should use? Thanks!

Hi Jeff,

Welcome to the forum. Glad you decided to join us. As far as wood for floors and walls, you might check what Madjack has to say in this thread.

http://tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=20537

Various thickness of plywood for the floor and baltic birch for the walls and ceiling. With undercoating to keep the floor protected from the elements. If you will read in the "Teardrop Construction" forum you will find many more threads like this one.

See you around.

to the playground Jeff.

Type of wood will depend on the use. You can use pine or spruce or oak if you can get it. We liked the Birch ply for the outside but cut my own 1x2's because I couldn't find an affordable stick that was straight. Cut them from 1x6's as clear as I could find.

Read through the builds and you will get more information than you could ever use. Oh and take lots of :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: Keeps the bubble oil level.

Wow!!
Thanks to all for the great reception. I was motivated before, but now I'm really fired up. The weather stinks right now in Idaho so I'm working on individual mechanical parts. I'll probably get the woodwork going in a couple of weeks when I complete welding the frame. In the meantime I've been playing around with some paint schemes. You guys let me know what you think. I'll put them in my image folder so have a look.

Thanks again and I hope to be meeting some of you this summer

Jeff

I'm voting for this one because I want to see if you have the guts to do it?

Potato Chips

Postby afterburner56 » Sun Dec 09, 2007 9:22 pm

The Superman paint scheme is on the short list. It looks like Teardrops are like potato chips. You can't stop at one. I'm sure I'll build more than just this first one.

The superman theme might be on the short list, but the colors are nice. I agree with you, You can't have just one! At least you can't plan just one!

Get one built
