Howdy,

My father, father-in-law, and I plan to build a tear drop as a family project. My father-in-law ran a farm all his life, and later sold and maintained farm machinery. So we're pretty well set up using his old shop, which is well stocked with many metal working tools.

My father is great at carpentry, and has done a lot of the research, including finding this site.

I'm paying the bills and serving as foreman and retain design approval rights since I'll be the one sleeping in it with my wife. That means I'll have to live with all that shoulda, woulda coulda talk from her. On second thought, maybe I can blame her dad instead.

We hope to build the trailer over the winter. I bought a manufactured frame which is now parked in the father-in-law's shop. We're working on our list of materails at this point. Next step is to plan the schedule and the order of construction. Here is where I hope to find lots of tips from those of you who have done it before.

Huntsville is the Rocket City, hence my user name, Rocketear.

Hi Rocketear,

Welcome to the forum. Your user name threw me for a minute, since we have a member that built a trailer called the Rocketear. You might check out the album of doug hodder to see your namesake. With all the help you are going to have, building a trailer should be no problem. But if you have any questions, just ask, we like to help. And as you go, be sure and post pictures of your construction, cause we really like pictures.

See you around.

Image to the funny farm/playground to your entire group.

Now I didn't know there was a schedule or planed order of construction :? 8) Just teasin. If you look at the Generic Benroy plans above they have a very good order (that I didn't follow) of construction that is adaptable to most builds.

There are also lots of build threads in the Hall of Fame and the forums to read. The best plan is to take lots of :pictures: to keep the bubble oil level and :designing:  :hammer:

Wellcome to the fun. Glad to hear someone else in the North Alabama area. I live in Albertville, southeast of Huntsville.

I am building a Generic Benroy from the plans off this site. Great tutorial to read and use as a guide. Look at every picture you can.

Glad you are aboard.

Hey Rocket,

A big old "War Eagle" (AU class of '71) from a displaced Mobile, Alabama boy living in Idaho! The people on this forum are awesome. Welcome to the group.

I can see this is a friendly bunch, with too much time on your hands. 8)

So, regarding the schedule and order of construction, here is how bad I am.

When preparing Thanksgiving dinner for my family, including Mom and Dad, and In-laws, I had a schedule of events that ran from 0900 until 1230 that told us when to start the over, put sweet potatoes on the grill, etc. Some people (like my whole family) think this is way to compulsive. I just think it's good clean fun.

Jeff, where is Meridian Idaho? I love the state, especially Stanley. We were near Red Fish Lake last year for my parents 50th wedding anniversary.

Meridian is right next to Boise in the Southwest corner of the state

I'm new and in 'Bama too, work in Huntsville but live in Hartselle. Won't start my build until spring, tho...way too much going on finishing up a bathroom and kitchen remodel right now.

Howsumever, I must, based on my roots and my degree in Mechanical Engineering, say GEAUX TIGERS 'cause I'm LSU all the way baby! :applause: :applause:

 8) Not to worry, you will fit right in. We have a lot of compulsive and obsessive folks here. If we weren't we wouldn't get it done. And our husbands/wives/partners would not have to look on here to find us. 8) :R
