Any thoughts on Cabelas brand dutch ovens and accessories??
I just picked up a 12 qt oven over the weekend. I got a 100.00 gift card for the new Cabelas at Boomtown near Reno. My first one!!
Well, I do have my fathers old 10 qt that needs help! looks pretty bad.

Some folks have had real good luck using electrology to clean up old ovens. The IDOS website has some instructions on the process. It's a good way to bring back some of those old ovens.

I've got a Cabelas 12". It cleans up well, castings on the lid are nice, interior is really smooth, seasoned up well...it's a cookin' mutha...Doug

Cabela's DO's are private label runs made by Camp Chef for Cabela's.
Shelly was nice enough to pick up a 20"er Cabela's for me on her way out to California... It works very well on 20 lb. prime rib roasts.

I was looking at the DO's in the new Cabela's in Lacy WA this weekend and noticed the lids were a lot heavier in weight than a Lodge. I like the Lodge brand better. Danny

Yes, I did use your set before I got my own and your's do have a high tech feature that none of the others do...
Yaa... They never hang up when folding for storage... If the plastic zip ties are still warm.

We have a brand new ginormous Cabela's in Post Falls. I looked at their cast iron and was not impressed. Every DO I looked at had ill-fitting lids. Press on the edge of the lid to see if it rocks on the oven. If it doesn't, rotate the lid and try again. It should never rock. If it does, the oven loses its efficiency from the escaping steam.

You can fix this problem (if it is small) by applying valve grinding compound to the edge of the lid, putting it on the oven and spinning the lid. This may take quite a while, but it helps to seat the lid on the oven. Be sure to completely clean up the DO after you do this.

The ovens I saw at Cabela's were too badly warped to have this done to them. They were cheaper than Lodge, though. 8-)
