Kate's OK so far (Excelsior Springs, MO) - she still has power but has the wood stove cleared for action and wood in store, just in case. I plan to join her next week.

Okay, white elephant, that I understand. The adults do that some years in our family and they are always a blast. Ten dollar limit and the tackier the better. I actually got a sperm bank from my mother one year. We still laugh about that one.

Hey guys,
We just missed the ice this time. We're about 90 miles south of Julie. It's just cold, wet and nasty here. Julie, I feel your pain though, we've been stuck in an Oklahoma ice storm before, it sucks. Be careful girl.

Thanks all.... glad you escaped it down there in Duncan .

I might try to call Karol (kajamelu4) tonite and see if they got hit, but she's east and south of me so might have escaped it too.

It's Wed , almost 5 pm and son called and the power is still off on my street. Last night I drove a little in the rest of the suburb of mine and it's pretty much pitch black.... sad and eerie .
IF you know what tornado damage looks like , just picture that with ice all over it .

Now for the good news ... Thursday 44* for a high but OOPS!!! Fri night/ Saturday we could get 2-4 inches of snow , and western Oklahoma will get 4-8 inches. with lows in the mid 20's.

OH and Mark& Cindy (Planovet) .... the beloved lantern was loaned to my 70ish neighbor man last night ... he is warm but no lights (gas stove) and I didn't want him burning candles too much. So loaned him the lantern.

Thanks everybody !! Me and the old neighborman might hop in the car and go to the casino tonite. !!!! haha

I was wondering how the group in the Tulsa are are doing. I know power is out still in some places. Checked with family in T town. They are still without power in some part of Tulsa and Broken Arrow.

Julie,

We are glad that the lantern is being put to good use! Things happen for a reason, you were destined to take home that lantern.

Stay warm and don't have too much fun at the casino!

Um, am I correct in thinking that heating a house with a gas stove is not a good thing to do?

I've done it quite often when the power goes out in the winter, open the oven door and use it too. Any heat is good heat when it 10* outside.
It's not a TD, there's lots of air in a house and if you open a door occasionally it refills itself. 8)

Glenn,

I know you are too young, but I remember when all we had to heat the house was butane space heaters. Most of us survived. Yes, it was butane back then.

Well, Thursday ... still no power on my street.
I didn't cart him off to the casino tonite , and have our department holiday dinner tonite. He has a good blue flame on his gas stove, and he lives alone with his 2 small dogs and he shut off the two other bedroom doors so it's keeping his living room , bedroom and kitchen a nice 65* .

I made sure he's turning it off at night. He does get out and go somewhere during the day, he's quite chipper . Went out to breakfast , went to another someone's place and showered , went to walmart.

There's still quite a few friends (and thousands, literally square mile neighborhoods in the black) without power and I have an album on my photo bucket website (hit WWW below , you'll see an ICE STORM folder) IF my power comes on today and another friends doesn't , I told her that her and her folks and her brother and other brother etc will ahve to come to my house.

I'm not in a bad mood or anything, it could be worse ya know! Didn't get to call Karol or Reo Ron or such. Hope the Tulsa area folks are surviving!

Well I'm back in light!!! Actually I've had power at home just no internet,TV or phone cept cell for several days. Work's a different story -no power ,phone, internet! yuck ! I do have a gas space heater in the office and large windows for light . The rest of the building is about 45-48 degrees. Business is SLOW but still doing a little work. No work=no pay = sad Ron. I did have to go out to the tear and get the propane stove while the power was off at home Monday am, a man's gotta have some coffee!!! My yard looks like a combination of a tornado and WW III . A couple of trees will have to come down and the other 18-20 will need a bunch of trim work . I hope the liquor store by work opens soon . I'm out of Baileys for my afternoon coffee! My friends have been helping me stay warm and now I need less friends or more liquor. ha ha
Everyones well and warm so even in the yuck we're blessed . Wish I was in Corpus with Tony. I Hate Cold Weather!!!!!!

I GOT BACK ON_LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I started to think it would never happen again. Still no power, but the genersioator is humming in the back yard, the cable and internet came back up this afternoon, and the insurance company has me on the list for the adjuster, so it is getting better.

3 acres of damaged trees, one 10" limb through the bedroom window, no electric for 5 days now, and being told it will be back by the 18th, but everyone is OK so YES it could be a lot worse
