Flat tape measure

I purchased this tape measure shortly before starting my tear construction, and man do I like it! It is completely flat, and doesn't buckle and curve away from you right when you need to look at it, as opposed to a standard tape measure that has the curved tape.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here. You can pretty much only use that on flat or fairly flat surfaces where you can lay it down?? Another words, no holding it out in front of you to hook on something?
I'm a little curious about the accuracy, it looks like it's a little rippled in that one pic?

You are exactly right. But for most of the wood working that I do, the wood is usually flat on the work bench or saw table. And yes, it is very flexible, but has a very tight hook, and is dead on accurate if pulled tight.

I imagine that will run around a curved surface fairly well too?

I ended up usng a fabric tape over curved areas, worked well but NOT overly accurate, this would certainly do the trick,

I am really amazed to see that women are into things like tape measures, and building tear drop campers. Although my wife loves to camp, the building aspect is not for her. Neither is the fact that I own a flat tape measure. But now decorating ideas, she's the decision maker.

www.woodcraft.com sell them - and they are very reasonably priced. They have a few different models and I used one of their traditional ones for my tear build. I really like the way it fit my hand more than other brands that I have used in the past. I was intrigued by the flat one, but never used one - thanks for making post to discuss this

Sweet, I must get one of those, every thing I do is flat surface.
Is that a metal tape?

Yes, and very flexible, but strong.

Though I've never had the need for a flat Fast Cap tape measure I do purchase some of their other products and have others on my wish list. Just about everything they make seems to have been invented by & for Cabinetmakers . Danny
