What else do you build?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

I could spend a long time telling you about my list of hobbies.
Before I started the tear, it was a toss up between that or carving a totem pole. I had never done either before, but that never stops me.

What else have I built

Postby crankshaft » Wed Nov 28, 2007 4:23 pm

Well let's see now. In my 73 years, I managed to build several houses, four dune buggies, three motorcycles, (maybe I should say re-built, they were wrecked when I bought them) I've built up several cars starting with a 35 ford ending with a 67 mustang, Smog requirements put an end to that hobby. I've built two camp trailers and ended up with a keeper. I call it Plan "B". This one I'll keep. I even built an airplane. A Rutan designed Long EZ. I've flown it all over the states. Boats I don't do.

As a side line and in my spare time when my two daughters don't have me fixing something, I managed to write two published books. I call them "Justice...my way" and "Justice...in Black and White"

Matbe I should retire .. Maybe some day I will.

my hat is off to you sir. truely a man whom deserves the name Crankshaft. i have tinkered with a few old trucks, built r/c airplanes (but REALLY want an ultralight kit to build) my father owned a 1959 cessna 150 straight tail that i have more than a couple hours in, i have resurected a motorcycle once and ended up wrecking that one again, went to school and got my A&P cert. but i have not the skills to match your obvious wealth of skill and experience. we should all try to be this. :applause:

you rock man!

btw, i need pics of that Long EZ!

What else do I build, let me count the projects..........A medical clinic, a post office, a library, a jail, a 3 level underground parking structure, a hospital, a convalesent home, a block long shopping center, a bank, a manufacturing plant, a Boys Club, a bowling alley, a church, a Sears store, numerous grocery stores, drug stores, medical offices as well as some custom homes. After that, I retired as a 40 year construction superintendent, about 13 years ago.

Now if you mean what do I build now, I guess it would be my woody teardrop trailer, my 6 ft Stacker TD, completely rebuilding the interior of my 10 ft Kenskill standy, large storage sheds for my stuff, a workshop addition, and an ongoing project in my home, requiring new doors and jambs, a new hand-carved, stained glass entry door, wall sheetrock, built in cabinet units in the wife's scrapbook room and reworking all kitchen cabinets..

I am constantly crankng out one-of-a-kind wood turnings on my lathe, such as platters, gobblets, vases, pencil holders, lidded boxes, bud vases, egg cups, and bark-edged vessels, since it is my favorite power tool. I do some scroll saw work, models of lighthouses and off-of-the-wall teardrops. My next project will be adding woody sides to my little S-10 Blazer, to match the 1/2 Nelson Woody. That's about all I can think of right now.

Roly, sure beats drinking beer on the couch and watching the Oprah show. Now where's that Honey-Do list?

That weight's a stack of pellets. If it runs very long I'll make a Purty brass one.

Well let's see. I have built or worked on several Street Rods and Customs. A 49 Chevy 5 window truck, 58 Chevy 2 door sedan, 52 Chevy 2 door sedan, 64 Chevy El Camino and the last was a 38 Chevy 2 door sedan. I have built several engines small block and big block ( Ford,Chevy, Pontiac and Volkwagan )for a lot of people. I have done bodywork, suspension, wiring and drivetrain modifications and fabrications for a lot of locals for their old cars. Built my own smoker out of 26" diameter steel pipe. Have built and been in RC airplanes since 1976. The last ones I owned had gasoline engines in them ( 26cc, 40cc, 60cc and an 80cc twin ). I have done a lot of woodworking and am into firearms and reloading. As you can tell I have a very understanding wife. :D
If you want to hear God laugh just tell him your plans.
