In this time of yuletide cheer
We are reminded why we are here
people rushing to and fro
Getting into deep financial woe
Going always to the brink
Usually after too much to drink
If we would stop or just slow down
and remember the man with the thorny crown
Who started as a babe around these dates
you know he tried to show us how to control our fate
He preached peace and love, good will to all men
God will forgive you if you just let him in
It’s not really difficult to go and do our part
Maybe you’ll miss the blue light special at ole K-Mart
But is that what it really means to you
All the hustle and hype and the Bart Simpsons too
Or do you long for the old days when holiday cheer
Meant a trip to your church to dispel all your fears
Where we sat with each other and worshipped the Lord
Instead of the tube trying to sell us a Ford
The choirs heavenly chant around us will swirl
If we remember God’s only son, the most precious of pearls
It’s not too late to get off that treadmill
To take control of our lives without bottles or pills
To let go and let God and let all good that prevails
Wrap around us and comfort us, so what you missed a few sales
God is the only light and our eternal salvation
And this season is His gift to us to use with elation
So honor and cherish that babe oh so precious
And forget all the hoopla it’s
God that will bless us
:)

Drove around tonight and just looked at lights with my 3 year olds.
We need more family time and less commercial.

I dont care for the so called Christmas Buying and Spending..till your broke and all the trash.

Still here we try to celebrate the Oldtime Christmas as it should be. Nice meal and no rush.

Family and Friends, Christmas Church, going to pay our repsect to Grandpas And Grandmas Grave, light the candles there and do some praying there with them.

Go to traditional Scandinavian Christmas Church.

Also its a tradition to have Christmas Sauna which is really nice.

Well at least thats our perference still, but boy if grandma and grandpa was still alive we would really be treated to the oldtimes..

Ohh we have the possibility for Sleigh Rides here too. ;)

Thanks Rick.

It's nice to read something that reminds us all " the reason for the season."

Good job.

Yep... Well said indeed.
That's kinda the point of my rude avatar.
A lot of folks seem to have lost the true meaning of Christmas.

Well said. :applause:

It tends to be forgotten the season we are now starting is Advent, a time for preparing for Christmas, with the first day of Christmas on the 25th and not the last day on the 25th. At least that's how I do it.

Thanks all for the kind words, I wrote this in 1990, when I was in a low point, helped to refocus what was important to me. pull it out every few years for a reminder. This year I wanted to share it with my very special new friends. Believe in this little poem sentiment or not, from my heart to yours !!!!!!!!! :embarassed:

Rick,

I thought your post time showed about noon, not night.  :R

All kidding aside tho,

I just reread your poem again. And maybe I was in a hurry when I read it the first time, or something, but that really hits home how commercialized this holiday has become. And how people take so little time to see that the really important things in this life are things you can't buy with money.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that your poem is really well written and really touches a spot way down in my soul, and I appreciate you sharing it with us. Thanks,
Uncle M ( Mike )
