Paint Ball at Gathering?

Postby Lynn Coleman » Sun Dec 23, 2007 1:42 am

Hi all,

I'm wondering if there might be some paint ball players out there that might want to play at a gathering?

Has it ever been done?

Can you even play paint ball in a State Park Campground?

Would anyone even care to do this?

Please note I don't play, I like to shoot but I can't run around and dodge paint balls. Paul, however does enjoy the sport on occasion.

While I have nothing against the sport itself, doing it at a camping function would make me very nervous. I do think the two should remain separate activities. Like any other weapon, if it is taken to a campout, keep it out of site.

Paintball

Postby Aaron Coffee » Sun Dec 23, 2007 11:37 am

I knew a couple of guys that took paintball guns to a Iowa state campground. And where fined for having firearms in a state campground. These same people had them in the campground(private)at a racetrack and where shooting everything in sight, porta-pottys, campers, race cars, trailers, even motor coachs. I told them point blank if I find one spot of paint on my td that heads would roll. They must have beleived me. The campground officials told them if they have one more complaint or even see the paint ball guns that they would be kicked out of the campground. These where adulescents(adults that act like adolescents). I would suggest asking the campground first to avoid any trouble.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

The first Dallas NPPL was held at Joe Pool Lake State park in the Arlington, TX area. We played there for a number of years before and a few years after until the environmentalist started throwing a big fit about the paint being permanent. Nobody would listen to us that it had come off every year before at the next rain, so we were out.

To do it, you would have to get prior permission. I would just set up a game at the local field. That way you have refs, a clean field, and air/paint at the ready.

To clarify, I wasn't suggesting that the paint ball war be played in the campground area but rather at some other location in the park, if possible.

Also, I agree they would be dangerous if people were not playing properly, I was assuming everyone would understand that, sorry, I shouldn't have assumed.

I thinking a strict game with rules and proper protective wear for the players.

As I've thought this over after posting, I realize this game might not be the best choice especially if "spirits" are flowing at a gathering.

Why would you even consider something like that in a State Park or any other camp ground? Are you planning on providing protective gear for the trees and bushes? Take a good look the next time you go to 'Paint Ball Park'. Every thing is colored.

Last year when I was camping with a few other teardrop and vintage campers at Woods Canyon Lake, Arizona someone went and shot up some trailers and a few park signs, so I'm not sure if stuff like that is welcome. Plus I don't think they make drop cloths that big.

I think if their is a paint ball park nearby and some people want to get a team and go play fine. But paintball guns alcohol and targets always wind up badly.
