I wouldn't be sorry about it. Sounds like the company needs to explain why you can drink water that is softened and not cook with it. Perhaps it has metal or something that further filters remove.

Our water softener had a whole house filter on it after the softener. :thinking:

It could be a matter of amounts. The salt in a water softener is only used to recharge the softener. Drinking water does not actually run through it. Just trace amounts of salt end up in the water you drink.

If you use it to cook, you are putting it in direct contact with food.

That's just a theory, but it's possible. :thinking:
