Redwoods Gathering...

I took off 2 weeks last time. Took 3 nights to get there 4 nights for the event and 3 nights to get back. Even at this speed, it seemd rushed.

We are planning on going again but there are a lot of "IFs" involved. If we do go this time, we plan on dropping in from the North and possibly taking more time.

Rocky, you guys just gotta go! Kai and Louis will be there. Kelly doesn't think her trailer will be ready by then so she will probably ride with me.

It takes me approx. 2 1/2 days from Eureka, Ca. to Tulsa. any less than that and you're gonna be deadbeat tired when you get to the IRG2.0.

Kevin I agree with you. I have driven that kind of miles north and south from my home. My cousin lives in ElCentro,CA. He use to do it in 28 hours when he was 25 in a Malibu 442 in the 70's; but we old farts learned to take our time and smell the roses as you would say.

I hope all a good travel and have fun along the way. It would be a good idea to buddy up in travel as a goup in case of problems.

I'm looking at close to 6000 miles and probably around a $1000 for fuel alone!!! I'm guessing this little journey will run in the neighborhood of $3-4 grand before it's all said and done!!

Rich, it is 2500 miles one way for us and IF we go, we are thinking of taking a month and making a big loop up to Glacier NP, then drop down on Yellowstone and then over to the Black HIlls on the way home...it would be around 6000+mi total and would cost around 1500 bucks just for fuel ...just don't know if we can swing that at the present time.........

We are planning on going.
I would like to be part of a caravan but Charles and I will be leaving on Friday, April 18, 2008.
I will start working on our route. No clue yet which route we will take going and coming home.
I will probably be at Pamplin Grove Thurs - Saturday or Friday - Sunday.

I know what you mean....the plan is right now to make it happen.... but July is a ways off yet. My fuel my be more too if the BMW doesn't do as good on gas as I think it should, don't know anyone that's towed with a 735 so I have no idea what kind of mileage drop I'll get pulling the TD, I just guesstimated.
We've got a couple of things that need to fall into place for it to happen but I'm hopin' I can make everything come together. Just too damn much fun to pass up!!!....and I'm not sure I want to wait another 2 years!
The route I wanted to take was closer to 7k+ miles so I trimmed it down a bit?

I'm sure the Redwood Gathering is like our LCG ... it honestly feels like a big family reunion, except you're anxious to see everybody and hate to leave !!!

I'll have to see what kind of tax refund comes back too .
Plan B could be to work a little part time job, just long enough to make the gas money and get a friend or someone to go to share driving etc.
Oh the brainstorming is starting !!!

Charles and I both turned in our vacation dates at work. We are both off for 2 weeks. Will leave on July 18th.

I'm getting ready to start camping already..............

It just needs to warm up as it was 20 degrees here in deep east Texas this morning.

I may just have to stop visiting the Forum. It's become too painful!! ...so many gatherings that I can't attend!


All of the trips sound like so much fun! I would love to go to California. Everytime that I have visited there has been an absolute blast. Unfortunately, the next 5 months are going to be very busy for me. I'll be doing good to make the Beaver's Bend gathering (I've gotta make that one 'cause Beaver's Bend is a part of many of my fond childhood memories...Memories, like corners of my mind, misty water-colored memories..." ) ...then I've got to find a teaching or research gig for the summer by April or March...maybe there is something in California...

Shwooout, now I'm California dreamin'...on such winter's day. I know you guys will have a good time though.

I drove from Atlanta to Dallas in 9 hours once, but I don't think I can maintain that pace with a TD in tow.

I need to look at some possible routes, and see what's doable. I wish I COULD take a month off for a big trip, but alas, I must work.

I'm thinking that the trip could be done in three sections, with two nights of camping along the way.

Glad to hear so many of you would be willing to do a long haul out to the IRG. For those of you who have concerns about the price of gas, I'd advise you to save up some extra and fill up outside of our area. We have the distinction of having some of the U.S.'s HIGHEST gas prices weekly, and it's been going on consistently. It has been that way for years! We have not seen gas hit and stay below $3 here for the better part of a year. I fill up with supreme and it can be as high as $3.89 during peak periods.

That said, thanks for the enthusiasm and willingness to come so far.
Hope the gas gouging, I mean gas prices here won't scare you away. Just travel out of range a bit and they'll seem more reasonable, especially for those of you coming from the deep South.

I'm going, but by way of the airport. Right now flight + rental car is cheaper than the gas alone, plus I'd actually be able to spend time at the gathering. Not too trusting of my car and without a tear it seems silly to drive.
