Yah, looks like they are getting slammed really hard there. I heard on the Weather Channel last night that winds could be around 150MPH in some of the mountain passes!! I just can't imagine that.

Sure hope everyone is safe and sound!! We may not hear much until Monday, though because it is supposed to last all weekend, I heard.

We lost power from about 8:00 am till 12:00. I was trying to get a pic of an engine for our Classic Finn but it was raining so hard we didn’t want to move it outside to open the crate.

Look great outside today. 8)

I survived so far. I get really worried about these big trees in that kind of wind. I've got a bunch of tall conifers on the property and the wind sounds like a freight train going through them. Didn't lose any windows like last year, one fir is 15' around at the base and it's like 100+' high.

Power was out for 24hr. so not real bad, not like Okla. people earlier. I've got a number of antique oil lamps so had light, small gen, and cooked on the coleman stove. The chain law is in effect and every Flatlander from the Bay area is trying to get to Tahoe. Some decided that under the canopy at the gas station was a great place to learn how to install them, blocking the pumps. A brief discussion with some of the locals changed that practice. The going rate is 30$ to install and 20$ to take them off by the Cal trans regulated guys on the freeway. Some of the more business savvy kids were making some money, working the parking lots. More power to 'em!! Doug

Doug,

I lived in LA for over 8 years once upon a time and we used to go to Mammoth Mountain alot. I sure can remember the chains required thing. Sure glad I had them and also that I knew how to use them!!

Sure glad to hear you are OK. Know how anyone else is doing??

Doug,
Glad you're OK.
Got pretty windy here too, sure glad the IRG reservation vigil was last week.
Had a real bitchen thunder and lightning show on the Hill last night too... Didn't have to count and wait for the thunder.
How's Daizy holding out?... Little Hog got pretty freaked, but the cat seemed non too bothered about it.

Good luck to all you guys on the west coast. I really can't imagine what you are going through because we didn't have the hard winds here. We thought the ice storm was bad. We will be thinking of you and hopeing for the best, no injuries. When is it suppose to let up?

So. Cal. Storms

Postby eamarquardt » Sat Jan 05, 2008 1:16 pm

I agree with Ma3tt that the recent storms have been a non event here in Ventura County (just north and west of LA County). My brother lives in Walnut Creek (Bay Area) and they have gotten some good rain. It didn't start raining here until Friday afternoon, drizzled/light off and on till about ten last night and has now stopped raining. Doubt that we got over an inch or so. Stay tuned!

Cheers,

Gus

Things have calmed down today here in the desert, don't even see any snow on the mountains at the 6000 foot level.

Im reading on the Tv Text News that California in the San Francisco area received over 200mm of water and winds hit over 45 meters per second..

Over 600,000 homes without electricity and could be days before all electricity is returned back to normal according to officals.

The worst hit by the storm was mid and northern California.

Ive been at sea when it got rough but at 32 meters per second winds not 45..

Ohhh myyyyy god. Now that is fierce.

I've been watching the Weather Channel this morning and it sounds pretty scary.
