Checking in from Southwest Wisconsin

Postby Hillbilly Gene » Mon Jan 07, 2008 5:16 pm

Hi everyone,

I, like so many others, saw the “RV Crazy” segment on TV, and became hooked. I think it was the woman who had the Teardrop spare tire revolving into a table that did it for me.

I’m retired, and my son likes to say, “Dad, you have all the time in the world now.” And I’m just as quick to reply, “No, just 40 more hours a week.”javascript:emoticon(':D')
Very Happy

Mostly, I’m an old fart not afraid to try anything new. I’ve been “lurking” on this forum for some time, downloading as much information as possible. I can see that good planning is more important than a fast build, as long as I don’t plan forever.

There are a number of web sites about Teardrops, but the people on this one reminds me of the people in the old “Northern Exposure” TV show: everyone is eccentric in their own way, but no one cares. I’m about as goofy as they get and maybe no one will notice.javascript:emoticon(':applause:')

Hillbilly
Welcome to the forum Don't worry about people thinking you are goofy. I've had quite a few people think I am goofy with my "little campers", but it works for me.
I'm glad to see another member close by. I live about 45 miles west of Dubuque. Have gotten together a couple times with Claw (Jim) from the Rockford area but have not hit any of the Illinois/Wis gatherings. I'm more of a solitary camper.
I'm sure any questions on building a teardrop will be answered by the forum members so ask away.

We actually have a very wide range of personality's and most people here accept that and even enjoy it.

Now---the smileys---ya just gotta click on them and they will land on your post. We love the smiley's almost as much as the pictures. :pictures: :pictures: :pictures:

Welcome!

Where in Southwest Wisconsin are you located? We are in Tomah.

Please plan on joining us the weekend of April 25-27 at Kohler-Andrae State Park in Sheboygan for the 2nd Annual "Cooler Near the Lake" gathering. There will be quite a variety of makes and models of teardrops - from home built to manufactured, so you will be able to get lots of ideas.

All the details of the gathering are here:

The more the merrier!

Hi Y’all!

Bodyman:

You gotta be in Iowa. The state’s not that narrow!
Thanks for the warm welcome.

I used the old “drag and plop” method. It didn’t look quite right, and I tried to fix it. :frustrated: In the heat and passion of the moment I whacked the “Submit” button, rather than the “Review” button. Kinda’ like jumping off the diving board; there weren’t no turning back. :worship:

Thanks for the tip. Gee, my first posting and I already need help. Well… that little learning-curve speed bump is past, on to the next one.

Betsy,
I live in La Crosse, 50 miles up/down the road. The meet sounds like fun, but I can’t commit just yet. :( My house is for sale and I’m moving back to the St. Louis area where I’m from. If the house sells by then, I’ll be busy; if not, I’ll try to make it. But it’s already on my calendar. :D

I kin tell. The real question is “How did a hillbilly get to be an old fart in Wisconsin?” :shhh: The Avatar is a picture of great-great-grandpa Caswell W. His father came stumbling out of North Carolina about 1790 or so and Caswell lived most of his life in the Ozarks, in a holler’ on Logan Creek, west of Ellington, in Reynolds County, Missouri. My dad was born and raised in Black, Missouri; also in Reynolds County. I was born east of that, across the mighty Mississippi in a cornfield near Ruma, Illinois. (Actually, I was born in a house in a cornfield, but why get picky?) 8) But the twisted DNA is there, and I inherited that “cussed bull-headedness” in the gene pool. A True Missouri “show-me” attitude. :)

How did I get to Wisconsin? I “don’t ‘member what my memory used to be”, but I think women and/or alcohol was involved. I’ve been in Wisconsin for 35 years now and the tug of family is strong. I still have 2 brothers and 3 sisters alive. I’m single and my son lives 2-1/2 hours away. Plenty of friends here, but that tug of family thing….

The Ozarks are in my blood and heart, and it’s sech’ a perty region. It’ll be a great place for a teardrop outing. :vroom:

Elmo:

Beer’s on me. I’ll also break that first rule of life; shouldn’t take over a minute. 8)

Now, can anyone ‘splain how to insert quotes? :scratchthinking:

 8) Oh are we gonna have fun with you. Go straight to the Thread Killers Thread. BTW Mike C is my husband and better half. I am a Georgia hillbilly. 8) And just joking of course. I tease everyone eventually and you are teased.

Now the Quote thang. You can quote someone by looking in the upper right of their post and push quote. From that point be sure you are at the
before you type.

You can also highlight the section you want to quote, paste it in your reply
and do
leave out the spaces and put [/ quote] at the end. Be sure the " " marks are there or the name won't show up.

If you are not worried about the name just highlight, copy, paste, highlight and click quote
in the post. The other way is easier.

Gene,

Welcome! Look back at your last post and see the 'Quoted' section. I modified your post so you can just go back to it and do an edit, then look at the code that creates the 'quote'. Hope it helps you!!

Well, neighbor, before you move, come on over to Necedah, visit the shop and take a tour! The guys love to have people stop buy and are always willing to give help and share ideas. And there are always teardrops in various stages of being built.

And if you can make the April gathering, we'd love to have you!
