Congratulations Eunice. I hope it keeps towing for a very long time. Or at least till you get a new one 8) ;)

Nice new wheels Eunice! I really like those Jeep Liberties. I almost got one of the CRD versions myself.

Mandy, I was really intent on going to the IRG 2.0, particularly since my teardrop will finally be done this May! Of course when I looked at Google maps and realized it was going to take over 10 hours to get down there I started to reconsider. I am a bit leery about traveling that far by myself pulling the tear. First off I won't have too much experience pulling it by then, and secondly I am worried about something going wrong. I am also concerned about the time off from work, since it runs Wednesday to Sunday. I am really feeling a bit bummed about it right now. I just can't make a decision without having experience with the trailer yet. Hmm.....

By the way, I just got a new laptop, so I have been up to my eyeballs trying to get everything transfered and set up on this thing. I did a bit of work on the trailer this weekend, and I am going to try getting the new shots posted to my photo log tonight, if possible.

Amy your closer to IRG than I am, I'm at least a couple of days away. I don't have a TD yet but I'm going to take my tent, I think it would be cheaper on the gas.

Who else might be going?

Amy,

If your trailer is done in May and IRG is in July, you have time to practice.... They are so little you do not even know they are behind you, until you look in the rearview mirror and your heart explodes!!!! Last year Shelly and I each drove to the Dam gathering... It was a blast. This year I'm taking a scenic route with my traveling partner... Brandie, my 12 year old granddaughter, to IRG and Mendo, by way of Washington.... Never been there and have friends in Oregon, I want to see in route. Point is.... practice and make it fun! Hope to see you there!

Gosh, I wish I still lived up in God's country with you guys. I lived in Idaho and Nevada for awhile and CA for a short period. Now I live in this miserable state of Florida and it's too far to join you guys and gals. The IRG sounds like so much fun...I'm sad :NC (and jealous).

Amy I bet there are people coming down from Washingtion that you could hook up with. Paul and Norma live in Washingtion. You could make it to LaPine Oregon and come down with Bruce and Pam.
Dont give up. IRG is a great gathering and this one is going to be BIG. Last year was my first time pulling the tear. Pam is right, you cant hardly tell it is behind you. When you pull into a gathering there are so many people to help you that it is easy.

btw: i still have trouble backing up! I just let others do it for me.

Becca you could fly out for IRG2

I probably would feel better if I drove down there with someone from this area. Then if something happened along the way I would have extra hands to help out. I would like to make the drive in one day if possible, so if anyone knows of someone heading down there from Washington that plans to make it down there in one day let me know.

I guess I am getting a bit of the butterflies anticipating the completion of the tear and already worrying about damaging it somehow.

I know what you mean Amy I'm looking for someone to help me out with the drive and gas. My younger sister is going but she dosen't drive. So I need a third person to go along.

Any one from NM of AZ going that needs a ride?

Thanks
Mandy

Tag-teaming is a nice precaution on any roadtrip, hopefully you can hook up with someone. Sure wish I was just 10 hours from that gathering.

I had never towed anything before pulling my teardrop to the paint shop last fall from the teardrop's storage facility in the mountains. Piece of cake. Next I was really nervous about having to drive it into the city (Washington, D.C.) to have it inspected and licensed. Piece of cake.

Then I got even more nervous when faced for the first time pulling it on a narrow, curvy road (Shenandoah N.P.'s Skyline Drive). Surprisingly easy (just take the corners a tad wider).

Afterward I laughed at the realization of my trepidation over pulling a tiny trailer while other folks were cheerfully barreling down the road in humongous RVs and pulling massive trailers.

And it has occurred to me that my safety margin has greatly increased pulling the trailer because I drive 60-65mph while towing and 80-85mph when not towing. Probably makes the mpg a wash, too.

You're going to do great with that TD. Please make sure you know exactly how to hook it up to your car. When I picked my TD up at the paint shop, the painter informed me that I needed a "coupler lock" to keep the coupler from coming off the hitch ball if I hit a bump. Well, I had bought one but didn't know where it went and it was in my glove compartment. He also showed me how to properly attach the safety chains (cross them).

My top safety priority now after adding some stuff to my TD is making sure I've got the tongue weight safely calibrated before towing it again. Have never weighed it and suspect it's too heavy but I know for darn sure I can't let it be too light because that is very dangerous.

It's been a learning experience, for sure. Thankfully, none of the lessons have yet been learned the hard way.

Which brings to mind an important question: Are you going to have your teardrop insured for collision?

:)
