I am stuck with a potluck

Postby dreadcptflint » Sun Jan 27, 2008 12:45 pm

It's my niece's birthday so what does my brother in law due? He makes it pot luck with the main dish of Stew. My mother in law is bringing bread. My niece is going to be seven so no red wine. What would you bring for food?

Take the red wine anyway. You and the other adults will need it at a 7 year old's party!   Cookies are always welcome. I would recommend Oreos. They also go well with the wine.

Sounds like this meal could use a nice green tossed salad or perhaps some sort of jello concoction. Try this link for lots of great, easy jello recipes.

Good luck.

If you really don't want to cook for a potluck again you could tell your brother in law that you are going to bring the main dish and show up with this .

The 7 year olds will be bawling in no time so you will have to get to the ice cream and cake right away . It's a win win .  .... D.J.

Update

Postby dreadcptflint » Sun Jan 27, 2008 1:51 pm

I finally got a call back from the brother in law. He is doing a plop plop diner of Dinty More. This means we are free to do almost anything. My wife is leanning towards a mac and cheese however I may do something else since a birthday deserves something more.

I'm not a big fan of pot luck (How long did you say that potato salad was in the trunk of your car) but I'd bring something that I like to eat. Red wine would be good. You know, the kind that comes in the three gal. box...

I know its the photographer, and not the camera. I'll keep shooting with a Pentax. Just in case.

Thank you

After all the suggestions, we will be going with Mac and Cheese. (My wife has a good recipe).

I will use Marvin's at a latter date as it is a good looking salad and I really liked DJ's.

As for little kids not liking complex cooking, I have found that kids will eat anything they are exposed to. My little guy is only 19 months and he eats most everything including guacamole, tabasco, curries, onion dip, clam dip, egg rolls, chili and is incedibly fond of cheese.

8) You are absolutely right but I know so many parents that just give in when kids start screaming

the urge to kill

Postby dreadcptflint » Sun Jan 27, 2008 11:14 pm

My wonderful brother in law decided that Stew was too expensive at $5 a can so he went and bought chili at $2 a can. (We almost thawed out a half batch made with home grown chilies to bring). Needless to say the mac and cheese was the only thing completely consumed.
