I need some help with filon. Looking for a distributor with good pricing. Prefer on east coast, but will go where the price is best.

thanks,

Chad,

I found this in sdtripper2's index, there was one other link there to filon as well.

FYI,

Over the years I've received countless requests about using the interior bathroom paneling available at Home Depot & Lowes for exterior Teardrop siding. Kemlite manufactures this type of product too but it is not Filon. The product "Filon" is a special FRP that is for exterior use on RV's. The interior bathroom panelings are not protected from UV rays and should not be used. The Kemlite factory told me that these panels will yellow, become chalky and brittle outdoors. They also said that these products shouldn't even be used on the interior of a trailer because of the extreme temperature changes, causing it to violently expand and contract. Kemlite will only sell Filon with $10,000 minimum orders. Most RV manufacturers will not sell to the public. But there is one enclosed trailer manufacturer in Wisconsin who will sell Filon at $2.00 per square foot (that's cheap!) and will roll it up and ship it to you. His name is Glen Erickson, 340 Rosemont Street, Coleman, Wisconsin 54112, (920) 273-0747. It comes in 8' wide rolls, cut to length. Filon can be rolled up into a 7" radius.

Arrgh, I'd stay away from Glenn. I've had a bad experience with him and I know there is a member of this forum who is out money and doesn't have a thing to show for it.

FRP

Postby eamarquardt » Mon Jan 14, 2008 8:36 pm

All-rite http://all-rite.com/ sells a fiberglas material especially made for rv's. Not "filon" but it is probably very similar and would be just as usefull.

Comes in 8 foot widths and can be rolled to 7" in diameter and shipped.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Gus

I ordered Filon from Glenn in Nov and he has not returned one of my e-mails since he received my cashiers check.

He has had my money two months now. I know that Bruce received some material from him, and his experience was about as bad as mine.

BTW, If you go to a local RV dealer they may have some laying around as well. I've done that before and made out well

I bought filon from Glen last fall. I have yet to unroll it and inspect it (winter in Colorado) but I had no problems. It did seem to take awhile, the whole process was nearly 3-4 weeks but it did arrive. I paid $1/sf and about $100 to ship it.

I think Filon is actually a brand name for FRP. I have been to the manufacturer's site and if you are a RV dealer or the like, and can buy from the maker, it comes in a wide variety of colors (as do RV's). I would think it could be painted but I wouldn't know what to use. I usually see it with decals, swooshes etc...

Find it localy. Buy localy. I would contact the Manufacturer and find a local dealer. There may be better prices out there but you won't have to ship it.

Even $2.10/sf is not bad. The two local places I checked out in Northern CO wanted between $4 and $5/sf.

At $2-$3/sf less it would be worth driving down and picking it up at the Metal Co. They are just off Sheridan and I-76. That puts them about 60 miles from you. Even with todays fuel costs that is about $20.
