Camping in Bryan, Tx

Postby SmokeyBob » Thu Jan 31, 2008 5:47 pm

One of the things I do when I'm not doing anything, which is most of the time, is volunteering at an Equestrian therapy Center. This year the State Equestrian Special Olympics will be held in Bryan, Tx. It's a three day event from May 16 - 18.

The driving distance is to great for me to drive back and forth for three days. So I'm looking for an area to camp out.

Does anyone know of any camp grounds in or around Bryan, Tx.

Lake Somerville is only 30 or so miles from Bryan. I didn't look at Jack's list.

I lived in Bryan/College Station for almost 4 years, but that was 30 years ago and it has changed quite a bit.

Just looked at MJ's list and didn't recognize anything, but I would choose south of College Station on Hwy 6 as opposed to anything in Bryan.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

MJ and Tony, thanks for the info. I've since been told where the event is going to be held. http://www.brazoscountyexpo.com/area-info

From the looks of their web site it's a very nice center. And they have RV hookups. So I should be able to camp-out there.

If anyone is interested in going to this event, there usually free to the public and you get to watch a nice horse show.

Four years ago Judith won second place in western riding. And the year before that she got first place in three different events.

Sounds like it would be a fun event to watch. Unfortunately, I am very allergic to horses, especially when the horses and hay are indoors.

Let us know how it goes, especially if Judith competes. I bet she loves it.

Judith stopped riding about two years ago. We reached a point where the risk of riding didn't out weigh the benefit of the therapy. There are two types of riders. Those who have been thrown and those who will be. Thought it was time to quite while she was ahead. We still like being around horses and volunteering.

It's so much fun watching these riders compete in these horse shows. Considering their disabilities it's amazing what they can do.

Bastrop

Postby Tiny Tow » Thu Mar 13, 2008 10:19 pm

You might want to look at Bastrop. It is about an hour to an hour and a half away, but a really nice park. Great Pine trees. We go there a lot.
Sounds like something I would like. Maybe my mother and I will go.
