Indiana Gatherings for 2008

When I attempted to book 93 I did the same thing and it showed booked immediatly. When I called and talked to a real live person they were able to confirm that it was still available even though it showed booked. It was explained that if interest is shown in a particular site it is immediatly "booked" to place it on hold for you. It will remain in place for several hours then manually reset by reservation staff if no $$$ has been put down. This protects the 1st come first served policy. If you have to go get another credit card ,or you mis-key, or your computer takes a time out ,your choice is protected. Several of the booked can resurface as available if no deposit has been actually placed on them.
A bit confusing at first but it is very fair policy.

Site 92 is still open I think. I actually tried to book this site a while back. What do you mean? You haven't booked yet? Better book soon or you will be out in the panhandle. You want to be in the "loop" don't you?

Well nothing wrong with the panhandle. We need to shoot for a goal of 30 this year.

Greetings

I just talked with a live person with (Indiana State Parks) and 92 is taken. The person I spoke with said the only spot left in loop was 94 and she was looking at her computer. I have not logged in to check yet but there are spots left on the panhandle. To those who were there a few weeks back; can you tell me anything about site 94 other than it is far far away from everyone else . These past few post's have got me thinking about it again . I will log back on and check out the site to see what I can find out.
She did tell me that if for some reason there is a change or second thoughts on a site; remove anything from the shoping cart. This will open the site back up otherwise the 20 minute "Floating around in space" theory becomes reality. Once I found it booked I could have removed it and started over right then. Oh well; we live & learn.

I just checked and the follwing are still available as of 4:30 pm today
94, 95, 96, 98, 99, 74, 72, 71, 70 inside the loop. There are a few out on the panhandle still remaining.

I was just looking. The reason I wanted 92 is for full shade. 94 has this also but high traffic area probably due to the PT. 95 has full shade and 96 has morning sun.

I looked at 94 and almost took it. More elbow room. You are tucked in the trees a little deeper than the others ( further away from the lane maybe 15 more feet) If ya want 93 instead we can trade at setup who will know. Grab it their definition of high traffic is curious it's a one way lane and we all see the same cars. Most campers will go to the modern restrooms and no one is going to walk past you going to the pit toilet because you are beyond that. I got a corner lot for elbow room you would have a rural setting with elbow room on both sides.

And you will have good neighbors that know how to cook ask the survivors of the shivaree !!!!

I wouldn't be too concerned about having shade in May. I camped at Mounds State Park one year in May and we had snow. However Kurt always picks weekends with nice weather so snow should not be a problem. It just may not be so hot that we need shade. Then again last October at Salamonie it was consistantly in the 90's. We are in Indiana so we can expect almost anything.

So there you have it. Everything we need to know about the weather for our camp out. Well, maybe. Sort of. Almost everything.

I had 92 at the shivaree nice site, from what I saw I don't know that there is a bad site and We'll know all or neighbors no matter which site you pick

Last May at Turkey Run I had to turn the heat on at night. Days were for sure not to hot. I take the Shade because I like camping in the trees.

I am looking forward to my first trip with all of you which now puts my projects on a time line but that is a good thing. Scott if you can list me on the outskirts of town this entire process will be complete
This may be addressed later (as I am a first timer here) but what to bring is my next question. I have plenty of room for a gas grill and such. Food will be the second as am a newbie and don't know how the T's do things on these outings. I have plenty of time to be filled in on all the little details now that the hard part is done.

Hey Jeff, the best advice I can give you on food is go with whatever floats your boat. If history repeats itself, we will have a group pitch in dinner Saturday night and informal breakfast gatherings. I'm sure our campmaster Kurt will provide us with a schedule when time draws near. Bringing a gas grill is pretty fancy. Most just cook on coals or the fire but again whatever works for you is fine. The best part of these gatherings, other than meeting everyone, is the food. Look at Kurt's waffles in his album, and Scott's cobler can't be beat.

Hey Jeff
Just bring an appetite knowing Vickie she always has us cooking for an army.
We are arriving early Friday taking at least 1/2 day off and I know dinner that night will be a 1/2 of a tenderloin in the dutch oven with bananna peppers and spiced tomatoes and some sides. Breakfast will be homemade biscuits and sausage gravy.( The kind of gravy you can stand a spoon up in ) She is bringing 2-3 different flavors of Cheesecakes for the pitch in dinner. Don't anybody bother to ask for the recipe she sell the Hell out of them to 5 or 6 local restaurants at 12 to 15 bucks each and I'm not even allowed to know how she makes them. We are still in the planning for the rest.

Really, don't go out of the way there's nothing fancy about the gathering just getting together and meeting people and haveing a good time.

I just might have to wake up for the Biscuits and gravy. I usaully sleep in and miss breakfast.

And I didn't get a tase of the apple pie, So many things to look forward to.
