Amp/Hours rating on Float Charger?

Postby kiltedwon » Thu Jan 31, 2008 1:38 pm

I'm looking into this HF 12v float charger for when the TD hibernates and I notice on the box it says it is for 12v batteries rated for 115 ah.

I've got two trojan 6v T-105s which are rated at 220 ah.

I'm wondering if anyone knows for sure why the AH matters on a float charger?

Sure thing MJ, Here's the link and the phrase on the box states

"maintains a battery's charge for batteries rated for 5-125 amp hours."

...first thing, there is an 800# for tech info...I would call and ask them
...second, is it sez no in the manual, so I would say no as well...
...third, it is a real cheapy and I would take a pass, even at the 4dollar cost(even for experimentation)
...fourth, how do you presently charge your batteries????
...fifth(I need one ;) )it might be that the power of batteries over 125AH is so high that the little charger won't even tickle it...I just dunno
...sixth, I am not one to knock HF, just because(I use a lot of their stuff) but it's a truism, that you get what you pay for (reffering back to third)
...seventh, I DUNNO, call 'em(reffering back to first)...
...eigth, that's all I know(not much, I know)
...ninth, Your Mileage May Vary........
...tenth, madjack 8)

p.s. oh wait, oh wait...it may be that the self discharge rate of the higher AH batteries is more than the output of the little charger....MJ

Yeah, I'll probably pass on this particular deal too, I just never thought to ask about AH for a floater and wondered if anyone knew they WHY of it.

Not to knock HF either, but its been my experience that if I don't know the answer, neither their store staff or help line staff know the answer either. Nonetheless I did call and my experience is still proves true, Which is why I throw it out to the infinite wisdom oof the TD forum!

Currently I check on my batts in the garage every month or two, check the voltage, hookem up to my car charger till they boil a bit, but I'd thought I'd look at a floater to do the job for me.

I'll probably call the local Trojan shop and see what they recommend.
Anyhoo, at least this post is out there now to add the to great TD collective.
