Many people (including us) have been frequenting Fish Creek lately, scouting out sites and enjoying the piece and quiet.

I can report that there is indeed snow on the ground and there are alot of available sites open currently

Looks like we're going to have to check out early.

we were offered a gig at L.L. Bean in Freeport, Me as part of their summer concert series. This is a pretty big deal for us as weve been trying to get into this series for 6 years now. The gig is on the Sat night. SO, we may arrive a day earlier and then check out Sat morning. We're looking at trying to get a gig in Lake Placid for the thursday or Friday night. That way, we could bring the band with us for the TearUp! anyway, we'll have to see.

anybody bringing a powerboat? the two times we have been there we brought ours, but our daughter also came with her popup so that we had a camper. this year it's just the two of us and the teardrop [if I get it done], don't want to bring two vehicles. they say even though I have a doubles license, I can't pull the camper behind the boat. my father says he sees it all the time in Texas. darn NY laws.

Well Marc, we went there not to long ago, wish we could go and see you there. Its a Campers Heaven ! Maybe if you get a gig in Lake Placid we will sneak up and see you there, that would be great ! WE are going to pick up our new trailer in a few days. We have named it now and with keeping up with our first loves legacy, "Bella Tear " (means Beautiful tear) we have named it "Bella Vita" (beautiful life). We are very anxious now to go camping ! We are in the process of researching the Battery and solar charger to keep it powered up quietly. Not sure which way to go on the charger but we have decided on the die-hard Platnum battery as it has the most amp hour and reserve capacity for the buck, that is for $200.00. We have found them on-line for over $800.00 ! I think that might be a little over budget ! It is difficult to figurre out all this Is it better to have 2 batteries that take longer to charge back up once discharged or 1 large capacity battery ! Our new trailer has room for only one battery without some re fabricating. So I hope we can just go with the one.. What are your thoughts on this, I know you ( Dave) have done a lot of research on this and I have read a lot of it... Not sure [/quote]

bellatear: what are you using a battery for that you need to spend that much on it. in ours and daughters popups I just use a regular car battery, usually a group 24, for a couple interior lights. recharge it when we get home. we're never out for more than a week. or you can buy a 1150 truck battery for under a $100. Bob

Sorry to hear you have to leave early Marc... but alas it is great that you have always managed to get to the TearUp despite your heavy schedule!

bellatear... I'm not up on those batteries.. but going to be ordering a 135W panel and controller in the near future to keep our batteries topped up.

PS. Would love to have the band come along too! ... well as long as they don't hog all the venison!

and sunset tours for those interested.



Speaking of sunsets... the area we are in is prime for great sunsets!

o.k. how do you get all your equipment there? You must bring two vehicles? ever see anyone pull a boat and a teardrop? We have a 16 ft open bow. Could always put the teardrop in a u-haul and pull the boat behind, we picked it up in a u-haul to get it home

Well Bob & Mary, to be honest, we love to go camping but we are spoiled now and we like to go when the weather is cold. We go to the state sights mostly and have been known to be the first one in on reopening in the spring and the last one thrown out at the end of October ( columbus day).
The car battery simply does not stand up to the constant draw of the heater's starting (hot water and furnace). We have drained a single battery(a marine deep cycle) overnight without even realizing it till it was too late. Dry camping has made us aware of conserving energy, but even with limiting useage we have to charge the batterys daily (we have 2- 90 amp hour deep cycle battery's on our older trailer) They will go for maybe 2 days with a 2 hour charging after the first day when it is normal use.
Now we are planning on going back to having only one battey again. So we are trying to optimise the efficiancy of our power useage/recharging to try and reduce the need to plug into the car to recharge the battery for several hours. WE thought about a generator,but would rather not become dependent on one, I'd rather have less stuff to drag around when we go camping.The truth is with battery's, you do get what you pay for, and the largest capacity battery's run a lot more. Dave thanks for the info, where are you planning on getting it from. I have looked at them at several sites and it does get a little confusing.. Not sure if I need 135 watt unit.. I have been looking at is a 20 watt system http://www.outsidesupply.com/index.asp? ... &ProdID=48. I am trying to buy the largest one I feel I can afford, but don't want to throw money away either.I know you work out of your trailer and thus your power needs are higher, but does anyone have any experiance with this low power solor charger ? Nope... never seen anyone tow two items. That must be a challenge LOL.

Actually Fish Creek is kind of like our 'cottage'. We store our Airstream and the runabout about 10 minutes from
Fish Creek. We drive down, pick up the trailer go down to Fish Creek and Kate sets up camp while I go back for the boat
and dock.

I saw Elvis do it in one of his movies, tow two things at once that is. He had a race car on a trailer and a small boat on a trailer behind that. last fall here in NY state I saw someone with a 5th wheel camper with a small boat hooked to it, didn't see what state they were from. I know it's legal in Texas and some other states in the southwest. maybe I should start a forum topic about it. Bob
