Winter Weather

Postby Mike B » Thu Feb 07, 2008 10:34 am

Average snow fall for a winter in the Coeur d'Alene, ID area is 66 inches. As of yesterday, we had 127 inches and today we have around 131 inches. The old record was 124 inches in 1915-1916.

I have run completely out of places to push the snow (see http://www.blogicalthoughts.com/?p=1056). I am glad my teardrop is in the garage, which has a metal roof (snow does not accumulate on it).

Does anyone else have this problem?

Mmmm......sorry, not us. Here in South central Oklahoma, we rarely get more than an inch or two. (The northern half of the state seems to get hit way harder than we ever do.)
My son got a handmade, personalized sled for his birthday in November. (It's beautiful!) He would love to try it out. But the only snow we got this winter, was a light dusting one day, and gone the next. I wouldn't care if he never gets to slide with it. However, we do get ice. Plenty of sliding, no sled necessary!

A year or so ago, after an ice storm, my kids went out to our big pasture. We have a long, long hill with a gentle slope. My oldest son slid almost a quater of a mile before running into the creek. He wasn't hurt, but nobody else would start at the top of the hill!

Mike,

Same story down here in Ogden, Utah. We have more snow than we know where to pile it-the most ever. This is snow country, but enough is enough. It just keeps coming. My teardrop is in the garage as well. I hope to get it out around Feb 20th to head for the gathering in Mesa, AZ.

I can't remember having a good snowfall like that since I was about 10 years old or so...

They keep promising us lots of snow to drive around in, and they never deliver what they promise...

What is this "snow" you speak of? Is that the same stuff they use to decorate Christmas cards? I think I've heard of it. Sounds fascinating!

Not much snow this winter here in central PA - way less than usual. I've only run my snow blower once, and that was for about 2" of snow-cone-like slush! Of course, having said that, we will probably get a blizzard now!

BTW, I have a T-shirt with Comic Book Guy and the words "Worst T-shirt Ever" on it. I love it!

We've been getting 2-5 inshc here and there, the worst part is that the ice from the first part of winter is still underneath all of the snow. I've been hoping for a nice 2-3 day blizzard, just for a few days off of work, but I'm always afraid I'll get stuck at work instead of at home.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

Guess you should ship the snow to Dean in San Diego. They always need water so fresh snow would help. We are to get a blizzard tomorrow night. Looks like 50 MPH winds and 4-5" of white stuff and then back to the deep freeze with -25° Saturday night.

If you haven't been in a good one, you literally can not see the front of your car.

Looks like a fun drive home from work ot maybe a motel.

We have had a lot of snow here in Maine. In Dec. I was worried about where I was going to put it all. We did get some warmth and rain, that "took" some of it. [our usual January thaw]. We have had snow on 3 of the last 4 days... snow today. Snow tomorrow, sunday and monday, is forcast. :D

Sorry Len, there's no snow in the Poconos or due north to the New York state border, today- ice or mud.

So now I have the problem we always eventually have at the end of winter: it's above freezing and raining. The snow is now a humonguous melting snowcone. I barely made it up to the county road this morning. I won't be able to park at the house for at least a week. So I'm in for a half mile hike every day to get to my car. Oh well; at least I don't live in a (shudder) suburb.

Mike, It sounds like a good thing to have a half mile walk to the house.
We are over double our snow fall averages for the season and today we are blessed with bright sunshine -1 degree with a wind chill of -23. The snow is sparkling beautifully but I am staying on the inside of the window.

I am personally glad to hear the news of your PS.
