Hi from Sweden

Postby Martin Sigge » Mon Feb 04, 2008 3:40 pm

Hi everyone,

here's your latest European Newbi.

I got my inspiration to build a TD trailer from various American TD sites, and since the weather in northern Europe isn't to be much trusted, I decided to make mine slightly bigger than most American TDs, enabling cooking inside in case of fowl weather.

My "maxi-teardrop" was built January - July 2007 and I spent about 400 hours on it. Some work still remains, but will be finished during the next few months before summer. My wife and I took it for a trip to Italy and back in July. 4200 kms (2600 miles), max speed 155 km/h on the German Autobahn (96 miles/hour). Fuel consumption 97 litres/100 kms (1gallon/25 miles).

You can follow the building process here
http://martinsigge.se/album/Husvagnsbygget/

And here is a link to a travel report in Swedish
http://martinsigge.se/pdf/Reserapport%202007.pdf

Most of you won't understand much of the travel report, but perhaps you will find some of the pics nice.

I am glad to see that there are some Scandinavian countrymen here on this forum, and one of my reasons for getting on board here is that I would like to find out if there might be some European TD gatherings that one could participate part in.

Does anyone know about a European gathering?

Greetings to all from Sigge Lowflyer

My son was just over in Uppsala at a floorball tournament... It was about 2 weeks ago..

Overnight onboard Silja or Viking Line from Stockholm or even over from Nynashamn to Vaasa will get you over to us..or vise versa.

I see youve done the roundtrip camping tour to Gdansk.. I know that area very well.

Welcome Onboard Sigge, enjoy the time on the forum with us.. there are maginificent folks here..

Sigge how many of you Swedes are building teardrops over there? Havent heard from too many if any at all till now..

Keep in touch..

:) Hello and welcome to the forum-
I enjoyed your link and pictures of the build. Hope you'll roust your fellow countrymen-women who might be building over there and don't yet know about the forum. Best wishes in your travels, Martin, and perhaps you and Heikki will start your own European gathering! Ya men hej, Sigge, anonan Svensk commer po forum-en. (another Swede is coming onto the forum, or something like that). Yep, I'm a first generation transplanted Swede here in So Calif. I see that Heikki has already chimed in, and you two should have much in common.

I checked out all of your build pictures and am genuinely impressed. Even standing furniture on end to get enough room on the floor to lay out your profile right on the plywood. Good idea. You must have some woodworking experience, with the 2 step fender wells, dropped floor, round-topped door, smooth rounded corners at the roof line and even a recessed window well in the curved front wall. That is a first one I've seen.

I want to welcome you to the T&TTT message board and it looks like folks will be asking you questions instead of you asking questions of us. That is some great, original teardrop that you have designed and built. I'll bet folks in the "Gammla Landet" will mob you and enquire endlessly about that strange camping trailer which appears longer than your car.

How did you get the trailer over to the mainland of Europe? Can you use the tunnel/bridge from Southern Sweden to Denmark? Looks like you also have a great command of the English language, I wish I could do as well in Swedish. Det ar svort at talla Svenska......;-)

Again, welcome and do take more pics of your "Caravan", as you continue your adventures to places of interest. I remember visiting Uppsala when visiting my sister in Oland some years ago. Do try to touch bases with Heikki in Finland, he is an interesting fellow and shares our love of teardrop trailers.

Ha det so bra......Roly

Hej Sigge Another transplant here. Very nice job on your tear. What
is the weight on the trailer & how does that very nice old Saab handle
it. Myself I pull our 450 kg tear with a 65 Volvo pv & it handles like a dream. We are in Canada.
Next time I talk to my cousin in Sweden I'll let him know that there are at least 2 teardrop nuts close to him. Right Heikki.

Image to the playground Martin. Lovely TD you have. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us

We would love to see pictures of the inside. There has been a lot of interest in larger builds and it looks like you have included all the necessities.

:applause:  Enjoy the board.
