Anyone near San Antonio or Austin

Postby Keith.B.Nimble » Mon Feb 11, 2008 2:58 pm

Hello. I ran across an ad for plans on how to build your own teardrop trailer from Kuffel Creek Press. This seems very interesting to me. I am in no rush to build because we are currently a family of 4 (two teenage boys). However my sons should be flying the coup in the next 3 years or so. I would LOVE to see some of the trailers so that I can start getting some ideas.

Also are there any workshops in this area? I live in San Marcos.

Thanks
Keith

Image to the playground. Now what you really need is to get those boys a tent and get camping. 8) Honestly I don't know how your going to wait for 3 years and they will make wonderful helpers. ;)

I already do tent camping with them. They seem to be enjoying it. We do it maybe twice a year.

I am thinking more along the terms of when they move out. I still want to camp with my wife but would like a little more convenience than setting up a tent every time.

There will be several folks camping at Lake Somerville the weekend of February 22-24. That would be a great place to start looking.

I have the Kuffel Creek plans, and while they are pretty good, the Generic Benroy plans that are available from this site for free are a great source of building information. I looked at those plans much more frequently than I did the KC plans. Lots of profiles have been adapted to these plans, so if you want the more traditional "teardrop" profile, that shape could still be used while following the Generic Benroy plans.

Welcome to the madness!
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Welcome,
I,m almost to the point of calling mine "Ready to camp", I understand they never are really "Done". I'm in New Braunfels. Let me know if you want to come take a look.

Kieth,

I'm close to Bulverde (North of SA), and you are welcome to come and look at my trailer also. If you can't make it, check out my gallery....there are lots of build pictures in there.

Thanks for letting me know about Lake Somerville. I don't know where that is at but I am sure that I can look it up on the internet. I noticed the Benroy plans but hadn't paid too much attention to them. I guess I need to take some time and look those over more carefully.

Lake Somerville is 80-90 miles east of San Marcos. It is 15 miles west of Snook, TX (I just love the name of that town!) which is 15 miles west of Bryan/College Station. The good thing about going to a gathering like that is you will see the campers all set up with all the camping equipment and make side to side comparisons. It would be well worth your time to make the trip.

Is there someone in particular that I should ask for if I make it out there? I don't want to be snapping pictures with people not knowing who I am or what I am doing.

We are used to it. We're not shy. Just look for the tears and you will be welcomed. I'll be the one pulling a tear and a kayak trailer.

I haven't heard anything from you. Did I scare you away? I would love to take you up on your offer. Please let me know if this Saturday around 3p.m. is good for you.

Also I accidentally did a typo on my e-mail address. It is

KeithBenitezatYahoodotCom.

Thanks

Thanks for letting me come over and checking out your teardrop. It is beautiful.

BigDaddyChia

Thanks for letting me know that. I will attempt to make a day trip to Lake Sommerville. That should satisfy all of my hesitations about building my own.
