Danny, since you are on the left coast and boulter plywood is on the right coast, the shipping cost may be more than the plywood. It was steep even from Mass. to W Va. From reading wooden Boat magizine for many years I know there are a lot of boat builders in your state. there must be a closer supplier for marine ply. Buy a Wooden Boat Magizine at the bookstore and look at the ads for Washington boatbuilders. Mostly a friendly helpful bunch, give one a call. I bought plywood boat plans from Tracy O'Brien somewhere in your state. He designs dories made from ply.
Fayetteville West Virginia, at the rim of the New River Gorge National River. Whitewater, mountain biking, rock climbing. One of BUDGET MAGAZINE'S TOP TEN COOLIST SMALL TOWNS IN AMERICA. Fetured in National Geographic Adventure Magazine., Noah Adams' (NPR) book,"Follow the River". Neww River George Bridge, 876 foot tall single arch. On Bridge Day sky divers jump from the bridge and live, most of the time.

Danny, when I read that you WANTED to do the ash, but chose to do the metal because of price, your Signature popped into my mind.

The time may "never be just right" to do it the way your really want to do it, so maybe going out of your way to find a means to do it the way you really want to do it might be worth considering.

Just a thought.

Ralf, not a bad idea to look in a Wooden Boat Magazine. I do have a budget I need to stick to and if Ash plywood doesn't fit in the budget I'll take the aluminum avenue. It will still look nice. I'm pumped to get this build under way and out the door before camping season so I can't dilly dally over material choices too much. I could add another idea to the aluminum that I've been thinking about. It would make a unique looking TD. :shhh: Danny

Danny, have you checked with Midway Plywood in Lynnwood or Plywood Tacoma, in Tacoma? I know Midway will do special orders.

Jeremy, I checked with AWI in Tacoma when their salesman called today. He said they would have to order a whole unit to get the 2 sheets. A unit usually is 40 sheets. Never heard of Midway and from the responses I've been getting it's going to be too spendy no matter who sells it. One supplier said it would be cheaper and probably easier to just strip it. JunoDave and Prohandy man can surely tell us how labor intensive stripping can be. Danny

Danny, your first tear is such an outstanding build...outside of being a woody, is there any other major design changes that you are going to incorporate in this one? Doug

Doug, I have a few thoughts rolling around & have acted on some and still tossing the others around. I do a lot of pondering awake and asleep and as things progress I can make some decisions. I know that sounded like a politician skirting the question  . I can say there won't be any black goop on the underside of the floor instead it will be covered with a 5 x 12 sheet of plam that is kicking around. The plam in the galley will be really different and I'll put in a regular sized propane stove in it even though lots of people liked the Outback stove/oven. You can do more in a Dutch Oven and don't have to fiddle with the heat so much. The "Little Diner" feature I did in the first one has never been used in almost 2 years so that's history. I'll just make a shallower basement close to the axle for camp chairs. I'll only insulate the roof to try and make it lighter and speed up production time. I'm referring to it as a clone since it will basically be the same as #1 just improved in some ways & NO SCRATCHES ;) . Danny

It'll definitely be faster as there is a considerable learning curve on the first one. I think you'll be happy with just the ceiling insulation. I wondered about the diner set up, I figured I wouldn't use one either. Did I miss it...aluminum roof or no? Doug

Yes, aluminum roof and more than likely the sides too. Over sized veneers are too spendy for my current budget. Danny

I'm making sparks ;) . Now I got to turn it over and wait for my Dexter axle. I'm finding welding to be fun. I just wish my shoulder muscles were all working in concert so it would be easier to weld a straight line.
Eventually it will get better with my daily therapy. :D Danny

Thanks Bruce  , I'll take all the luck I can get.
This is the end of the day with the chassis up side down & with bike rack tube & receiver installed. The tongue 2 1/2" X 2 1/2 " drop matched up perfect to a 6" receiver. I just welded them together and then welded some 3/16" flat stock over the joints, just for good measure. Much cheaper than buying a long one.:D Danny
