You know this is my nightmare everytime I have to take my vehicle in for service. I always get the feeling like they never really did anything except take my money.

I take my car to Jiffy Lube here in KC, but knowing how they are, I always stand in the bay and watch every step. It pisses them off, but it's my car and I wanna know what's going on. I may rethink this after viewing that video.

I've never gone to jiffy lube or walmart .... but when I have gone to Mobil or Valvoline, I almost always stand there and watch instead of sitting inside. And keep an eye on my car when I'm even at our local place.

ya never know.....

I change my own oil and then take the old oil to the local auto parts store. When my trans fluid needs to be changed (every 30,000 miles), I take it to a dealership and have them do it and only that. A friend of mine had his trans fluid changed at a Jiffy Lube. All went well except they forgot to refill after they drained the fluid. It was a standard transmission so it wasn't known for a couple of days. Yea it shifted kind of hard but he didn't think much of it. Well, after a couple of months fighting with them, he got a new transmission.

I took my truck into the dealership for an oil change. They pinched the O-ring and all the oil drained out, it has a canister type oil filter. This is the friggin dealership that did that, you pay extra because they have intimate knowledge of your vehicle, all the secret proprietary stuff and all. My thing is, it can happen anywhere. If it is intentionally done or an accident, it can happen. Now I go over it post maintenance.

I double gasketed my oil filter one time when I was a teen.
Found out real quick and it didn't hurt anything, but it sure made a mess.
The old gasket stayed attached to the the engine block... I've checked for this every single time since.

Jiffy Lube use to change the oil on my Santa Fe - the word here is use to. SInce the filters from Jiffy Lube didn't quite fit correctly and they don't put on a new compression washer -let's say lost oil.

So now the boys do it and they do a great job...........

Well why would you ever pay for oil? There’s a big vat of the stuff behind most service stations, and they don’t mind if you take as much as you need…

I had the big Chevy dealer here put the wrong bolts in my front end. After they had it in for service for a recalled part. It started making noise so I put it on my friends lift and then went back to the dealer and raised H$@%. Lets just say what they did could have killed me if one of them had broken.

Grease Monkeys?

Postby Pdbeta » Fri Feb 22, 2008 6:40 pm

Time to pile it on right?
OK, last three XC trips, we have had to get "oil changes on the road".
At home I do all the fluids changes one can do on a modern Toyota, so I know the vehicle, and I know, what i know.
Just prior to leaving this past summer I did a complete 4x4 service on my back, in my driveway. Fluids changed and topped up.
During the course of our 10k trip we stopped at a "Grease Monkey" oil change place.
They were told, as was, every place we have ever stopped at for normal oil changes, not to mess with the 4x4 diffs as they are serviced prior to leaving home. They are also spotless and not leaking.
To a chain (Jiffy/Walmart/Grease Monkeys/Penzoil), they insisit they have to "check" the driveline? I hold my ground and most times they comply.
I only pay for the oil change, not the complete"D-lux" service.
Really, there's no reason to check anything?
At Grease Monkeys, while I hit the boyz room they stripped the front diff top/inspection plug, in my front diff?
I know this as i generally watch every place we go except for this one time "nature call".
We're heading out in afew months again, "Do I reaaly have to bring my oil changing stuff with me"?
Inquiring minds reaaly wanna know?
