You would be alive, but you would need a change of pants. Watch the video.

I saw that this morning. I would have been busy throwing up all of my insides. I'm certainly glad none of my family was on it.

Looks to me that the pilot had every thing under control. But, when it came out over the intercom that we were going around and trying it again. I think that's when I would have asked, Which way is the door? :o

I was on a small twin engine plane and when we landed on a gravel airstrip in Alaska in the dead of winter we slapped a wingtip on the runway - Yup . . . . we all needed a change of drawers after that

Carefully looking at the underside of the wingtips afterwards, we discovered that our terrifying experience wasn't all that unusual - Both wingtips had marks from previous . . . . encounters

If you know what he went through, I'd fly with him anytime. Excellent job in those conditions. I have been there, maybe not as extreme, but wind can really tests your skills. Besides any landing you can walk away from is a good one.

I would have thought that if the weather conditions were that bad they would have directed the flight to land somewhere else. Why temp fate, in High winds like that???

I can understand attempting it once, but if the tower told me I was clear for another attempt, I might have told the tower to go "f" themself. :x

Of course, they may have circled for a while before the second attempt, to let the storm pass. I don't know the whole story.

I've heard the winds were 30 gusting to 50. Landing into a strong cross wind is not that big of an issue as long as the plane is rated for it. The issue, as I believe happened in this situation, is at the critical point of transitioning from the crab angle to straight down the runway just before touchdown, he got hit with a big gust that lifted the right wing up. He corrects it, and as soon as the right wing is downward, the wind again pushed the right wind down, almost striking the pavement as the left wing tip did. He knew he was out of shape as soon as the left wing dipped, and he was already powering up for the go around. I believe he did land on an alternate runway with more favorable winds.

Can you imagine looking out the left side windows and see the runway.
