A Different Wiring Idea

Postby Isalvus » Tue Mar 18, 2008 8:11 am

Here's how I wired my TD. Instead of buying and using an inverter I have a smart charger that does the inverting for me. The whole TD is wired 12v. All the 12v are connected to a deep cycle which is charged by a smart charger. The charger is plugged into an outlet strip and that in turn is plugged into the land line at the campsite. This way I have both 12v and 110 outlets and the battery is always charged when plugged in at the campsite. It also makes for a pretty dern easy wiring scheme

Seems alot like the scematic on this page: http://tnttt.com/viewto ... c&start=90 Except for the power strip instead of hard wiring to connect to the land power and for the 110V outlets.

:applause: :applause: :applause: Great solution to simplify. Got pictures?

One thing, and you may have done this---I personally would use a power strip that has a breaker and GFCI.

I noticed also that Lowes carries a portable GFCI that plugs into an outlet.

No - An inverter makes 120VAC from your 12 volt battery so you can use your 120 volt items when you're not connected to shore power . . . . No matter how 'brainy' it is, your smart charger isn't smart enough to do that for you ;)

I would expect that the OP simply used the term "inverter" instead of "converter".....just a hunch!
