Where are you camping for Memorial day?

Postby fireaunt » Mon Mar 24, 2008 12:26 am

What central TX parks will have teardrops this Memorial Day?

I'm thinking about Lake Georgetown. Has anyone been there?

yep- my nephew and 6 other couples are going to be there with big trailers and I wondered if any little trailers would be there. The web site doesn't show much. just wondering. The covered tables sound like a great feature.

I don't think I've ever been there- is it a busy park? I guess it's close enough to DFW to get lots of those folks. I have an ancestor who was a TX ranger in McKinney before the civil war- I guess the historic site might help picture how it was back then. I need to put it on my places to visit.

MEMORIAL

Postby CPASPARKS » Mon Mar 24, 2008 4:54 pm

Fireaunt,
Fort Richardson was a cavalry Fort from 1867-1878. Primarily staffed with Black soldiers (Buffalo Soldiers). Lots of famous people flowed through Jacksboro.
Doc Holliday was a dentist there for a short time. Numerous famous Army officers (Sherman and MacKenzie). Many of the original structures are still there.
It does stay busy...about an hour from Fort Worth. Lots of boy scout troops camp there as well.

Fort Richardson.

That is a lot closer driving for me. Distance is 374 mile as to nearly 500. Looks more promising.

I learned this past weekend never to camping on a holiday. To many people. :?

But, if you like people, then go for it.

Mary - Come to Colorado...I've got the perfect spot at the Royal Gorge. The campground is free and last Labor Day only 2 others in the campground. I actually camped there this past weekend in the snow!! It was beautiful!!

Mary, where did you go for Easter? I was surprised how few campers were on the road in Tx this weekend- maybe they left before me.
