Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Hey apratt,
If your wife is like me........ I can think of alot of quilting that I could do in that space..... I could even get one of those fancy quilting machines and actually make money doing what I love..........

My wife does have several differents hobbys, sewing, painting, jewelry and wood craft. Now if I could find the right place.... like 2 bedroom house with a huge shop...... I just may be able to convince her, right now her mind is set on a 1800 sq.ft. 3 or 4 BR house. Just for the 2 of us I feel we don't need a big house

Dean,
That is VERy cool! Like others, I've always dreamed about finding an old warehouse/bus station/etc. and converting it into a living space. It would be hard convincing the wife though.

Danny,
You're absolutely right. I could find a bigger piece of land out in East County. Still might someday. But for right now, we're stuck in the track houses. Love the neighborhood, love the house, just wish I couldn't hear my neighbors TV.

Guys,
Having a big shop isn't all cracked up to be as it sounds... It just gets filled with more crap!
Got real bad when I was self employed, going from back to back jobs, one right after another non stop, having little or no time to really clean up.
It was dreamy for about the first six months...
Now that I've got a life again, working for somebody else, I should have the shop back in order, Oh I'd say... In about six months from now.

I call mine the Men's Mental Health Center. My friend came over and we worked out there for about 3 hours. First time since November. Fired up my furnace and took it from 25° to 62° during that time. Finished the roof today. Liquid nails from last November still had not set up cause it was froze all winter.

Greg,
I remember you and I were trying to buy our places at about the same time...
You were waiting on the owner to make up his mind and pull the trigger with the sale and I was wondering just how in the world I would qualify for a loan having just given all my assets away, except my tools.
(Sorry if I seemed a bit whiney back then)

Man... You were right about your shop, it's gargantuan!!!

Here are a few pics of my "man cave" which is my office and the shop. The shop can be seen in my album with the TT build. But here is the office. It is all built within a 1400 sq ft building plus I put a loft for storage above the office. If you want better pics of the shop area and loft let me know.

I worked my butt off for two years making my man cave in the basement. New bathroom with a shower. This involved a jackhammer to install the plumbing. Now that's the stuff man caves are made from. A home theater (I love to relax and watch movies, Best Sound, Top Gun). My old bathroom became my walk in closet. Basically, I remodeled the entire basement. The problem is, I made it too nice. It's more like the upstairs now and not so much like the "cave" it was meant to be.

So now it's on to plan "B". I will call it my "Mobile Man Cave".

I don't have a man cave yet, but I do now have a hole in my basement big enough to get my trailer inside! I'll consider it a small victory for just a little work. Maybe one of these days I'll grow up and get my own man cave!
