If you know how to use =sum() you can come up with some pretty usefull spreadsheets...

Like this one for example... I've left the =sum visible so you can see what I did...

Hope that helps...

These totals are good, I need them....but.... I need it to total across for each sale too. I tried that following what younse are telling me and it keeps telling me I put in too few arguments.

I think I am not understanding what the parameters are in that box for the function arguments.

Rich, if you need the totals (from left to right) for each line then use this formula: In block F2 use =SUM(B2:E2) and then just copy that and paste it into each block (ie F3, F4, etc).

BTW: Did you look at the last link that I gave you?? It is a program specifically for garage/yard sales and is only about $13.00.

Just a quick note that you really need to LOCK the cells with the formulas to prevent someone from overwriting them and ruining your spreadsheet in the middle of your sale!! Just a warning!!

:lightbulb:
Actually, if you put that formula in F2, then while the cell is highlighted, move your arrow over the lower right corner of the cell, your arrow turns to a plus, then grab and drag that down to as many cells as you want that formula in.....

I wish I was a better teacher, because I actually know some stuff.......

Are we confusin' the heck outta ya yet????? :?

I did and that one looks pretty interesting. The only other one is a DOS version and it's a lot of extra baggage, cool tho.

Tried that, it gives me the same total on every line that way.

Are you getting the total from the first row on every row? You have to update the formulas:
In block F2 use =SUM(B2:E2)
In block F3 use =SUM(B3:E3)
Etc...

If you try the thing I said with dragging that box down all the cells in that column, it should automatically update the formulas for each row.

See that funny looking E up there? the one that looks GREEK? Well, if you click it, and then move down to you line of figures.. either verticlly or horizontaly, clik and hold on the first one, hold down the shift button, and slide across all the numbers you want to add together, go to the next empty cell, and let go...it will add alll the numbers together. ;)

OK....try it like this:

Click the cell where you want your total, then click the auto sum button, you will get this:

=SUM()

Now, click the first cell that has data that you want included in that total, You'll get a flashing blue box around that cell, it is now included in your formula.
Hold the mouse button, and drag that blue box down, across, whatever, to included all of the cells you want included in the total. Let go, and click enter.

Good job!!! That gave me exactly what I wanted. Totals in both directions plus an over all total in the lower right corner. Now if you write all this down so I can remember it we won't have to go thru this again!!
