Fender Question

Is there a preferred backing of some sort to use between the fender and the body? I see some that look like some type of rubber weather stripping. I didn't know if the use of silicone caulk would be just as well as long as it kept the moisture from between the wall & the fender.

Some use fender welting, you can google it. I used black silicone sealant in the crevasse between the side wall and fender just to keep the dust and dirt out.

I bought fender welt fromHot Rods and Custom Stuffon EBay. It's made by Vintique Inc # B-16070-A Fender Welt . 3/16" Bead 25 Ft . Crush Grain Vinyl. It goes for $12.50.

You can also get the size rope you want your bead to be and sew your own welting in your desired color out of vinyl.

Thanks for the input. Is there a recommended clearance from the tire to the inside top of the fender? My plans are from Kuffel creek and things are kind of vague from time to time. Thanks again.

Kk, we use 1.25"X3/16th" hi-density foam weatherstripping(black) sold at most all hardware and box stores...we place it flush with the top of fender so that when mounted, the seam between fender/wall disappears...looks good, is readily available and is inexpensive........

I should have mentioned that my fender has a solid back on it. That's why my concern for the moister getting trapped. It's a fender that I picked up @ Tractor Supply. I'll try to be a little more clear with any other questions.

PK, I did what MJ did, too. I know what you mean about the Tractor Supply fenders with the spray skirt. I was worried about the mud and rocks getting underneath them so I cut them off. Of course, I used a tandem fender, cut it in half and modified the two pieces to make fenders.


The spray skirt was at a goofy angle after the hack job so I cut them out to make it look good.

Jeff, I like the idea of cutting some of it out. Mines at an angle as well because I'm letting it ride a little lower in the back. Now that I'm learning my way around here the next thing I need to learn to post pictures. Thanks again to all of you for your suggestions.
