New Homebuit 4x8 Teardrop For Sale

Postby willif51 » Mon Apr 28, 2008 4:12 am

Photos can be viewed on the Craigslist listing in Denver, provided they published it - if it is not up yet and you are interested please email and I will email you pictures.

Teardrop camping trailer project built for sale, nearly completed and can be delivered on May 11th or 12th. I live in Rapid City, SD and will be traveling to western NY that week and am willing to deliver anywhere between the two states or to most anywhere else in the country for a reasonable fee (to cover the cost of fuel).
The teardrop was built based on Kit style plans.
The walls and top are birch plywood with a hand finish on the interior, is insulated with 3/4" dow home insulation, and has an exterior of .032 thickness sheet aluminum. All edgeing is aluminum. All spaces are filled with silicone caulk (including around the tiles).
Windows are aluminum, screened, and crank out from the inside to a vent position.
The door is birch inside, aluminum outside, and as a window.
The side opposite the door has a larger, matching window.
The galley will have its stainless steel two burner propane stove installed in the next few days. The galley will have vinyl flooring and the interior will have sealed cork flooring for comfort.
I have grey fiberglass fenders and have been actively searching for baby moon style hub caps to complete the look.

The teardrop is titled (the title is clear) and is registed in South Dakota. Trasfering registration to anyone else in South Dakota would not be a problem and I would not think other states would be a problem either.

At this point I am looking for anyone interested in the trailer before I advertise it locally. Ideally I would like to sell it as soon as it is complete.
I am selling because I found out my husband is going to be stationed in Alaska and we are not able to take it with us.

I am at a bit of a loss of what to put for an asking price. I have detailed records of materials and those ran up to about $3800 and I have put in somewhere around 350 hours working on the planning and building. I am hoping to start the asking price over $5000 and ideally closer to $7000 - advice on the price would be appriciated.

Please email or call for more details or more pictures.
I can be reached at [email protected] or 605.431.5215.
I am a stay at home mom so please feel free to call anytime.

It would be nice if you would post some pictures here for all to see. You never know who might be interested. Just upload them to your gallery here and your all set to go. Piece of cake.

P.S. Here's your listing on Craiglist http://denver.craigslist.org/rvs/659032647.html To me, $7500 is a little high.

:o Good morning and welcome I am with Gage, that is pretty high for an unfinished tear. You might go through the list here and on Craiglist and get a better idea of what is selling and for how much.

Completed Teardrop For Sale

Postby willif51 » Mon Apr 28, 2008 12:22 pm

The trailer is being sold completed and ready to be used.
I have the next two weeks to do nothing but work on it and complete it before selling it.
I am posting it here just to see if anyone is interested in it before I put a for sale sign on it and leave it in the resale lot on the air force base here.
Again, it is being sold finished - but if anyone really wants it unfinished I would be happy to sell it that way as well.

From those pictures, it is really hard to tell whether this TD will be worth that much, or not. There is still so much to be done.

Is there a reason you can't wait and offer it for sale when it is finished?

$7,500 is not unreasonable for a nice TD, but at this point, I can't tell what this thing will be like when it is done. I think you might be better off to wait until you have some finished photos to show, if you want to get top dollar.

teardrop for sale

Postby willif51 » Mon Apr 28, 2008 2:13 pm

I am looking to sell it sooner rather than later because my husband has taken an assignment in Korea for a year with a follow-on assignment in Alaska. So, I will be moving with our kids to another state to live with family for a few months while planning the move to Alaska.
I don't have anywhere to store the trailer after I move, it is another thing that will need to be moved along with many other things, and I could really use the money I have invested in it back to cover expenses (rental truck, etc.).
If anyone is interested I can accept paypal and can deliver the trailer!

...I'm sorry and not wanting to cause problems, but nothing you have said OR shown, indicates a value anywhere near half of what you are asking...got any pics showing the exact condition of the camper at present???????

Hello lady that seems to have joined the forum just to try and sell us stuff. I see you joined the forum 9 days ago, guess we weren't important enough to be included when you decided to plan and build a teardrop. We didn't get to share the experience, or learn how you overcame the difficulties in building, nor did you share the good days and your accomplishments with photos of your progress. I feel bad for you. You really missed a great opportunity to interact with a group of really talented, skilled, humorous, wonderful people, and a couple of grouches. Good luck, you will be lucky if get your money back on the deal.

Oh, and that was not weekend work, that was 12-16 hours per day, 7 days (nights!) a week contract build. I might add that there was also 100+ hours drawing and writing cut files before the first piece of wood got cut. While I am at it, I also welded up the frame from 3/16" angle and tube, full sized custom wheels and tires, 3,500 lb. axle, etc. Not trying too sell myself here, fact is your time (and mine) is not worth anything if the job is not finished. I think a true value would be a percentage of material cost for a project unfinished.

teardrop for sale

Postby willif51 » Thu May 01, 2008 1:09 pm

I'd like to respond to the abrasive posts I have gotten.
Yes, I did join the forum to sell my trailer. I am not trying to hide that from anyone - I am just looking to sell it.
I did ask for advice on what to ask for it and it seems as though people are not reading my posts completely and understanding that I am selling a finished trailer - I repeat THE TRAILER IS BEING SOLD COMPLETE! The photos are of an unfinished trailer because it is not yet complete.
To the man who attacked me for not joining the forum weeks ago to share the journey with him - I am a full time mother to two toddlers who are home full time, I am in college full time, my husband is about to deploy overseas, leaving me to finish the project I started as soon as I can so I can sell it as soon as I can and begin my next huge undertaking of moving myself and two children to Alaska. I apologize for not posting progress reports for you.
The price I listed is a price that I feel is fair for the time and expense that went into the trailer. This is my opinion, and everyone else is entitled to their own opinion as to how much it is worth. I have had one person locally come and look at it and he felt it is worth $5000 in its current state and more when it is complete. Others may have other thoughts on this but I was just posting it to see if anyone was interested. If you are not interested just dont post a reply, most of these replies have been very rude and there is no reason to do that to someone.

I'm new here, been signed up for a while but you can see my post count. I just started building my TD a couple weeks ago so I have nothing to add, just been reading a lot. But this thread struck me. I have been on quite a few forums and posts like these give me a bad taste for other members. Makes me not want to participate when I do have something to add.

You sell it for whatever you can get for it. If it's worth that much to you, good for you. You have a lot on your plate and don't deserve this. Good luck with the rest of your build and your move.

willif...you asked for advice and received it...if you didn't want the advice, don't ask...in various places you have stated the trailer is complete...in others, you state it isn't...sometimes in the same breath...also, what pics you have shown us, have shown an uncompleted trailer...so what are we to think...PLEASE be a little bit more precise in your posting...it may getcha further...

Lastly but certainly not the least...thank you, your family and husband for your service and sacrifice to and for our country.........

Hey

Willif51,

I think maybe the constructive critisism may seem a little harsh only because people like to be able to share their knowledge and kind of get to know you when you ask for their input. They were being practical when comparing what TD prices have been going for, as compared to what you have in mind for your yours. Your Album here is only 4 four pictures of how it looks right now and we have no way of knowing just how it is intended to look when your done. Some people may just slap some paint on it and call it done where others may call it done when it looks like a small mansion, thats a big difference. Especially when asking a premium price and considering some of the talent on this forum. We can all appreciate the work and added responsibilities placed on your shoulders to get this project done, make the most money on your investment and be able to make a smooth transistion to your new home. The people here including those that have already posted would be more than glad to help in anyway they can; Sometimes honesty is not what we want to hear but neverless it is important and the bottomline is if you can't sell it at $7500, then maybe starting at $5000 gives you less money in your pocket but a better peice of mind by knowing it's gone and can be put behind you. If you have any future questions, please don't be afraid to ask. We have some VERY talented people on this forum with a wealth knowledge and willing to share. Good Luck to you and your family at this time of change and we sincerely want to thank you and your husband for service to our Country.

Why hasn't anyone found a dead bigfoot? When was the last time you found a dead deer, bear, coyote, fox, squirrel, etc. that died in the woods.........Hmmm.

This is a forum is it not? A place for folks to freely exchange ideas and options. If some of the replies sound rude so be it, fact of the matter is that there are a lot of builders here who have a real good idea of what a trailer is worth. You asked.

The question I have is where did you spend $3,800 on material?

I mean really, a brand new Yoder or Little Guy is less then what you are asking. Great real. If someone is telling you it's worth X at this point he most know something we don't (or nothing at all). Sell it to him, fast! Do your homework. Compare prices. Look at what some of the trailers posted here for sale have gone for. Completed trailers that folks have spent a lot of time and love building. I don't even get nearly what I should for the trailers I build, but I don't mind.

I think it's rude to think the folks here don't know what they are talking about when you blow in here asking an unreal price for a pile of wood and scratched metal.
