Does anyone here have any info on this generator? Performance, durability, noise level? I can get one at a kinda reasonable price. Thanks

I use to sell Coleman Generators and they were pretty well built. Out of all the 25 or so I sold I never had any complaints or returns.
They are not as nice as Honda generators, they dont have that nice Honda sound and they dont have that nice Honda "feel" on the controls, pull starter, etc. But they are built better than a lot of other brand name generators.
If you can get a good deal, I wouldn't hesitate buying one. Aaron

I assume that you've found some sort of specs. I was surprised to see that there seems to be no model of this name on the Coleman Powermate site; the closest I found is this 1800W model: PM0431802.01.

The online description is remarkably vague; for instance, I can't even tell if this is a basic constant-speed unit, or an "inverter" type which only runs the engine as fast as required to meet the load demand. That makes a big difference to noise and power consumption.

One specific item provided is the brand (Subaru) of the engine used; while I have heard only good things about the small Subaru engines, I have no personal experience with them.

I wonder if the "Pulse" name is obsolete, and the Pulse 1800EX is an old model?

It is a PM0431800 4 hp Subaru motor, brushless, 1.3 gal tank, with 12v battery charger built in. This is the link I found for the manual

Still not alot of info. Also, it was manufactured in 2006. It is priced at $299. Thanks

It looks pretty much like the newer PM0431802; the "insert" (barely a manual) reads essentially the same.

I did notice that it is an enclosed unit, and the specs say that it runs for the same time on less fuel than the less powerful open-frame 1400 watt model - this is a relatively premium product within the Coleman Powermate range.

I would listen to a few generators before considering a generator. You might opt to go solar, or just battery powered...

that's what you'd

Don't know what it sounds like, but the quality of the engine is fine. I've used a number of Honda GX series small engines and Subaru EX series engines in my work equipment. From what I've seen, they're interchangeable in terms of quality, both very good. The 4hp Subaru engine is the EX130 model and by looking at the diagram in the "insert" that's what you'd be getting. It's kind of a cool engine design...chain-drive overhead cam, cast iron cylinder bore, ball bearing mains, etc....built to last a long time. It's not a throw away engine. The muffler is not the standard utility engine unit and is probably both bigger and quieter.

That said, this looks like a standard small generator and the engine will want to run at 3600rpm all the time so there will be some noise, it's not a high tech variable speed inverter generator.
