Northern Tool 5x8 trailer frame.... FREE SHIPPIING!!

Postby Mook » Thu Mar 20, 2008 3:59 pm

Hey guys, Just placed my order for a 5x8 NON FOLDING trailer frame kit from Northern Tool for $479.00 plus tax. It's a bolt together kit, that has a one piece frame equipped with 5.30x12 tires. Part number 125692.

Shipping is FREE!!!! :applause:

I had been shopping for a while and everyone wanted from $95.00 to $120.00 to ship. So, I think that I've saved enough to get my trailer and havea decent start on my project. ;)

My project isn't a Teardrop in the purest sense of the word. But it will be combined use trailer for camping and hauling my toy / tools.

I'll keep you posted of the progress.
The main thing to remember; is to keep the main thing, the main thing.

Ordered mine a month or so ago; it got here and I just put it together Sunday. Still waiting for the light kit; one of the boxes was ripped open and it fell out, along with the parts list/instructions. NT customer service, so far, has been great about it all.

Took a little over 2 hours, with a little rough mechanical research to fill in what the sketches in the direction left out.

I wanted the flat trailer, without rails or ramp, so I can build MY way (whatever that ends up being).

I also got a welder, and a 14" chop saw for all the bed rails I expect to use for practicing my welding, and building toolbox mounts, etc. - I did some maintenance welding a decade or two ago. :D

I'm thinking about possibly a detachable pod, or even a detachable box with knockdown tables & counters, and a folding sleeping space, all able to leave as much room as possible for hauling brush, debris, or yard sale junk, and yet make a space that's more attractive for camping than a tent on the ground. I know I've seen one or two like that, I think on this very site - it appeals to me.

Welding your trailer after you have it all bolted together is a really good idea - I did when I assembled my HF 1740 4 X 8 trailer and you would absolutely would not believe how much more rigid it made the frame . . . . it doesn't twist 1/4 as much now as it did with just the bolts holding it together. As an added bonus, you can then remove the top bolts so they won't be in the way of your plywood when you deck the frame

I bought the same trailer

Can't wait to get it, says it was shipped today. Also bought an arc welder, same idea welding all the connections. I don't trust bolt together. Just been 30 years since I've welded (high School) LOL Hoping to expand to 9-10 ft length. I'll just replace the side rails. looks like I'm using the "Grumman 2" plan for my trailer.

I ordered mine.
It showed up yesterday, 3 weeks after I ordered it, and the boxes were completely destroyed with parts falling out of them. UPS had shrink wrapped them to try to hold them together, and the deliverer said they have problems with Northern Tools deliveries all the time...And that they make a good product, but don't know how to package it, so parts are missing and damaged by the time they reach the destination. My stabilizer jacks showed up in great shape.
I had to refuse the shipment, and will probably pick up a HF trailer instead. too bad, the NT looks nice, and is wider by a foot.
My workshop is clean and organized, and I am ready to get started!!!
Oh well,

I had the same problem. The first trailer, 2 boxes, showed up all ripped open, parts missing. Also the first 2 welders they sent me were damaged. The good news is they sent me out a 2nd trailer. The boxes were in ruff shape but every thing was there. I now have a complete trailer all bolted together and ready to weld. The better news is the 3rd welder showed up today and it works too. So tomorrow its back to school and trying to see if I can remember how to weld LOL. I liked the 5x8 frame better than the 4x8. Also I expanded my 5x8 to 5x9 1/2. I'll try to post some pics later. Sorry to hear you had the same problem but don't give up it's almost summer

It's too bad they seem to have the same problem a lot. I was going to extend the 4X8 to 5X8, so that will probably give me what I need. I think I am going to do a slide out over the tongue, so that should give me the length I need. It's Summer here in AZ, already...that's why I need to get working on it, so it is ready for the fall!!:D
Glad you are getting going with yours...when you are finished, you are welcome to come over and weld mine! :D :D :D

Hello to All I'm new to the forum....I was getting ready to order the NT 5x8 kit but now I am starting to hedge...I have a Red Trailer supply center about an hour's drive from me. Red Trailer is $60 more in cost plus Sales tax and driving expense.

Sorry I didn't finish my response. I accidently hit the send button....Where I was going with the comment was maybe for the hassle of lost parts in shipping, the extra $160 (which includes tx and travel expense) for a Red Trailer Kit over a Northern Tool trailer (with free shipping) might be a better option. After all I live in So. Calif. Shipping from the east would take 7 - 10 days....Lots of time to loose parts or damage product in Shipment.....What do you think?
