Living in Las Cruces, in the southern part of the state, I'm kind of partial to Cloudcroft and Ruidoso. A lot of that has to do with how close they are. I like to be up in the mountains in the tall pines to relax. The northern part of the state on into Colorado is also very nice, and generally cooler than down where I live. The Jemez mountains are also very nice and there is a lot of history around Santa Fe. Of course, we have some history in the southern part of the state as well. The White Sands National Monument is over close to Alamogordo and in the southeastern part of the state you have Carlsbad Caverns. If you are ever going to come see either of those two, come in the cooler part of the year, not in the middle of the summer. White Sands is best enjoyed in the early morning or late evening, avoid the middle part of the day. On the western side of the state, you have the Gila Wilderness. Lots of nice places to relax!
