Unhappy with 4' wide?

As of this posting 11 out of 18 people are happy with a 4ft wide tear. That's 61%.

With all I've read on the forum about 5ft tears this is amaszing. You would think that 5ft was the way to go. Now the big question is why is 4ft so popular. Is it because it's cheaper, eaiser to build, more traditional, etc.?

For me, the whole point of a teardrop is its small size and simplicity.

I think that has me convinced now... I'll likely go with 4', and use that for a while, and eventually build a 5' if I need it.
Heck, with all the fun I'm having just planning my first one, I could have even more fun building two of them!

This is interesting because in the thread directly above this one, a "sticky", the majority of the people that voted said they wish they had built it wider. Go figure!

I didn't see much point in making it longer. That'll give you a bigger/deeper kitchen if you need one, but I do very little cooking in camp, so that wasn't an issue for me. My kitchen (such as it is) is all storage - water tank, battery, stove, coffee pot & cook pans. Food stays in the truck. You'll see it in June!

Joseph here is my take on length/width.

4ft wide is nice in keeping the tear compact but if its 4x8 it does have a bit of a cramped feeling. By making it 10ft long instead of 8ft it gives the roominess that a 5ft wide would have provide. 10ft also provides more storage in the cabin and probably more galley depth. Its mainly the cabin I was concerned with.

Some models are 9' that have a front storage box...
As far as 10' or longer...

Had to bring this to the top again. With my trailer frame sitting here getting ready to build on, I'm having trouble deciding if I should build 4' wide and cheap to help me decide if this is the way for us to camp. If It turns out to be uncomfortable for my wife and I, we can always go back to the 13' aloha, with minimal amount of expense for the trial.

I have to believe there are tons more people on this board with 4' wide trailers than there was when this was posted. Folks You can help me make up my mind by voting if you havent already, and stretching the numbers one way or the other. I've seen many mention they wish they would have gone wider, but you never hear from the folks with 4' wide and are perfectly happy with them.

Why is it you want to build something that some one else likes. There are pros and cons for both. So sit down and talk it over with your mind and then build it the width you think you would like. One thing, a 5 wide will cost more than a 4 wide.

It wasn't so much what others liked, It was... how many found it adequate since you dont tend to hear width comments from those folks. I dont mind a small space but i've not had the opertunity to stretch out in a tear yet.

Actually gage your earlier post in this thread has helped me a bunch. You mentioned your 4' wide bed in your other trailer.... I went and measured mine and sure enough 4' wide. I had almost made up my mind to go with 4' when I decided to randomly ask my wife if she was comfy in our aloha bed... her answer not knowing what I was getting at was " it could use to be a lil wider but other than that.... " Soooo.... I guess 5' it is. The extra cost wont be astronomical so there's little reason not to build wider.

The other thing I guess is if it does fit our needs, it is already 5' wide, if it doesnt fit our needs.... the 5' should sell reasonably easier than a 4' as long as price to quality is where it needs to be.

I think you'll be much more comfortable at 5' (That's a queen sized bed). Sounds like your wife has the right idea!
