Crummy Gas

Postby vairman » Mon May 19, 2008 10:38 pm

Just Somthing that I noticed going to Palo Duro, I filled up with gas before I left Irving... I noticed that my truck seemed to struggle keeping up with traffic and hills. After leaving Palo Duro I filled up with 450 miles on the trip meter and it held 30gal of gas thats only 15 MPG.. not so good.. But the rest of the trip my truck ran Great! After another 330 Miles I only used 15 Gal of gas getting 22mpg.. Since the DFW area uses the oxegenated and 10% Ethanol gas I would suggest to all leaving this area on a trip to fill up with gas outside the DFW area...

Greg...

The elevation change may have also contributed to your mileage. What's Dallas, about 500' elevation or so? By the time you got to the rim of PD Canyon, you were at about 3600', and then when you left, you had to climb 800' just to get out of the canyon.

Everytime I drive to Dallas from Amarillo, I notice better mileage going than returning.

It was really nice meeting you & Terri over the weekend. Ya'll should come up more often, if only just for the better gas mileage. :)

Greg, I have noticed the same thing...the station, where I buy 99% of my gas has just switched to a 10% ethanol blend(don't know about oxygenation) and I am getting 2mpg less per gal than I was before they switched blends :x :x :x ......man, you just can't win for losing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greg,

From what I understand you have to have to get two counties away from the DFW area to get normal gas without the additives they use in the Metroplex for the summer.

Thats why I love the Indian reservations on the out skirt of ABQ they sell regular gas instead of the ethenol-ed crap they make us buy for summer.

Crummy Gas

Postby CPASPARKS » Thu May 22, 2008 3:54 pm

I traveled 287 from Wichita Falls to Amarillo for 12 years only a very regular basis.

From WF to Amarillo is uphill all the way to get there (bad gas mileage).

Downhill from Amarillo to WF. That would play a part in the crummy gas mileage...coupled with not good gas...explains the problem.

Anyone else agree with me?

Almost anywhere from Corpus is uphill!
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.
