Automatic Hatch Prop

Has anybody tried to copy Cary's (Camp Inn) automatic hatch prop. Seems a perfect solution to me -- especially if the wind were to catch it -- but I'm wondering if the geometry might be a little difficult.

I'm really happy with gas shocks. You need the really stiff ones though. Same as for a full-size pick up truck tonneau cover.

If the wind grabs the galley lib, I'd be afraind that a normal prop rod could get tossed out. The gas shocks won't let it slam shut no matter what.

Why not use something like this?

It's a little tough to see in the picture, but it's just a support that locks the gas shock in place.

We bought gas shocks off of a minivan from the wrecking yard ($10 set) for our Coca Cola Teardrop. The framing on it is square tubing. Charles said we will have to get some weaker ones for the tear we are building now since it is wood frame and not as heavy. We would unlatch locks and back up and hatch opened up. We were in a few windy spots and never had a problem. I actually have to get a good hold to pull down and lock hatch in place.
