Wanted in White Bear Lake, MN

Postby Creamcracker » Fri Jun 06, 2008 6:11 pm

My daughter is getting married in October and we are looking for a classic car to take her from the Church to the reception (a very short distance no more than 2miles. We are a family of car - nuts --- my daughter even has a degree in "Antique Automotive Restoration" from the McPherson College, KS (I believe the only school in the nation with such a program) Anyway if anyone can help us find someone who would be willing to do the honors on the wedding day we would be grateful.
Thanks Philip

Hi Phillip! Congrats to the happy couple. I made this an announcement so it will stay on top while you are looking.

Thanks -- appreciate the help. It's hard to do things long distance. We found one company that rents classic cars as a business but I was hopeing to find a fellow enthusiast who would enjoy showing off his/her car.

Philip...it might be an idea to get with a car club in the Minn. area, or in your area that might have a chapter up in Minn. You could probably google something like Packard /Lincoln, Cadillac club etc...for the area that you are wanting a vehicle in and at least make some contact with someone that might be able to help you out. I used to do that with my 38 Dodge...not exactly an exotic car, but it did make a good presentation with an appropriate suit and hat. Models for fashion shows were always a +... Just an idea. Doug

If the wedding was in Culpepper, I could help you out. My dad has a 1930 something Oakland that he has won several awards for. He also has a 1936 Dodge with a rumble seat that he bought in college in the 1950's (he is the second owner) and restored it several years ago. My brother got married last year and my dad actually let him drive it from the church to the reception.

Unfortunately, Dad lives in MD - not far across the river from you, so if the wedding was in Culpepper, you'd be set. However, since it is in MN (at least I am assuming that it is from your message), I guess you'll have to find one there. Sorry.

Andrea.

LOL yeah it would be a lot easier if it were in Culpeper -- thanks for your willingness to help if it were. In Culpeper we could have even convinced the Priest to wave fees!!! :o

Thanks Doug -- I'm investigating that angle.

You can go to the main event in Minn. (back to the fifties car show) one of the largest in the nation, mostly street rods but a few antiques. Here is the link http://www.msra.com/ or you can try my grandfathers club he started the horseless carriage club of america, here is there link http://www.hcca.org/hcca.html

I do believe what you need is something like this. But it's in California. Sorry.

I asked a good friend who has a mint '41 Cadillac Limo, but he said the car gets put away for the winter on Labor Day. :(

If you have people up in this area, I would suggest checking out the weekly car show in Anoka (usually 1,000+ cars). You might find someone there who would be willing to help. There's also a big weekly car show in North St. Paul.

I know a guy who is a long standing member of the local AACA chapter and could probably find a car/owner in exchange for a donation to their car club ($100-200). PM me if you're interested, and I'll talk to him about it and give you his email address.

Good Luck!

My daughter called just last night and said that they were able to get a car for a fairly reasonable fee. Apparently its a 1957 Bentley -- which in my opinion is a "nicer" car than a RR -- it's a driver's car rather than a driven car-- if you get my drift. Anyway thanks for the help and the suggestions everything seems to be coming together. It won't be too long befoe we make the drive to White Bear Lake in October -- we will be going via BONTRAGER'S SURPLUS in White Pigeon, MI! It's like an Aladdin's cave for trailer people -- just don't tell those who are riding with me!
