Good for you Bill... I'm glad you got excited about that. I have a new black one coming to... only I got the 20G Linux version... I can always put XP home on it if need be...

So what's the plan? are you going to take it camping, or are you just going to play with it at home?

Mike...

P.S. I know, it's my fault!!!

There is no internal DVD drive, so if you wanted to play DVDs you'd need to pick up an external drive.

Sounds good Bill...

Do you have one of those cellular modem thingies on your HP Laptop?

I have a Verizon Cellular Modem, which I can plug into my EEE PC if I load XP home on it. :o

Otherwise I won't have email/web access on the road. But then of course, that's why many people go camping, to escape the Internet/TV/Phone!!!

Thanks for that review Marc,

My initial thought was to hold out for the HP. But the early reviewers said it was really really slow. And while the extra screen real estate would have been nice, I couldn't see paying more for slower...

I think it is a great investment! While I don't intend on buying one for camping, I have been toying with the idea of getting one eventually for my son.

I think I will wait to see what you think about it Mike before I got ahead with it. Definitely think it is a great alternative though to a typical laptop that is out there. :)

Mike, I'd be interested in the EEE PC as well. My question would be about ergonomics especially the keyboard. Is it standard size and usable for touch typing?

99 and 99/100 of my computer time is web surfing/email/wordprocessing/banking.

So it really seems to fill the bill for my needs.

Will be most interested in your review.

My laptop weighs 10 lbs and cost a bazillion dollars.

Mike;
I didn't know you used your cell phone for internet access...that's what I use too. Have you had any success in trying to get the Eee PC or any Linux distros to work with your cell modem / data connection?

Mr. Buzz,

It's not a cell phone, it's a cell modem.

I plan on using Win XP to get the cell modem to work with the VZ Access program that comes with the modem.

I have heard, however, that Linux users use this mod to get it to work...

Geron,

It's not a full size keyboard. I have small hands, so it works out fine for me. But you might want to try one on for size before you buy it.

Lisa,

If you have another bazillion dollars laying around, I'll give you my EEE PC for just a half a bazillion! :o

Mike;
Thanks for the link...good info there. I checked with Alltel and they have a similar USB modem-on-a-stick. But now I see that Verison bought Alltel...so maybe in the near future I can get one of these to play with.
Have you ever used your cellphone as the USB modem? I'm wondering if speeds are faster with the dedicated USB modem like yours. Any thoughts?
Now I'm anxious to see how billnut likes his...
