Looks to me like it's the tongue box.

Oh, I see it now. Thank you Kevin. Due to the rust, I'd guess that the tongue box isn't made of aluminum like the bulkheads are then, huh?
I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it left.

Well Tim, you asked a couple of questions. First, right now it leaks like a sib. All kinds of open screw holes (for the interior framing which most has been removed). But there are no signs of water damage except for the floor which was rotted from the under side. Also what appears to be rust is really dirt, everything is aluminum except for the framing. And the box you ask about is a tongue box as seen below.

P.S. There is no edge molding on this tear. The roof skin is formed over the side skins. Likewise the door skin is also rolled over the frame on top. Like I said, it is a very uniquely built teardrop from the late 40's, early 50's.

Thanks for getting back to me Gage. I've sent out an e-mail to a friend of mine in Cali, and as soon as I get word back, I'll re-arrange some things in the budget (for gas and grub), and I'll know weather or not I can be considered "serious" from there. I am TOTALLY in love with that lil tear there, and I'm determined to exhaust all options before giving up hope. I may have to wait until the 1st in order for funds to allow an expedition half way across the country, but if that be the case I'd be willing to pay you something of a storage fee since I know that the guys at the aluminum recycling yard would gladly pay to take her off your hands. While I'm on here, I have but just a couple of more questions (they seem never-ending - sorry 'bout that) : Is that the rear hatch strapped to the roof, and how far away from a welder's shop are you? I saw in another post where you said that it could be towed slow and for a few miles, so I plan on bringing a coupler with me to have welded on once I get there. I figure that some axle grease, a coupler, and trailer lights may be all it takes to get her down the road. Does that sound about right to you, or do you think it would be more difficult than just that? ...all this of course still depending on the variables mentioned earlier.
I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it left.

Tim, I'll get back to you tomorrow about the Orphan. I'll P.M. you. Oh, and by the way. I also live in Pearland, but in California. I guess you could say it's a suburb of Palmdale.

 Well, it's on it's way to a new home (not the scrap yard) and the plans are to restore it. And by the way, the fenders are early Dodge truck fenders.

I wish it could have been mine, but I think that it worked out better for everybody this way. I'm glad to hear that it didn't end up at the recycler, and will getting a restoration instead. :applause:
