I got at least a 2 month food supply.....stored around my gut and butt.

Folks, we wont run out of food, we will just pay more for a Big Mac.

Well...stop going to 'the stores' for your food.

The food at the farmer's market, at local farm stands, and the IN SEASON food at the market isn't coming from 'south of the border' -- at least not in my neighborhood.

If you're really worried about your food supply, go pick up a few six packs of vegetables. Put in about 12 feet of vegetable garden, grow more of what you need, put by the extra, shop smarter, and you'll be fine.

And I'm with CD on this one...we help out other countries with our grain reserves because we can, and because it's the right thing to do.

My mom's family was all farmers until now. My Uncle has a farm but not the one I fell in love with. It was going to be flooded by Smith Mountain lake in VA, so my grandfather sold it. All I wanted to do as a child was run away from home and go to the farm. My Uncle's place will probably be sold when he passes. He has no children and the taxes and value will be too high for anyone of us to buy it.

For a family of four, it takes about 2 city lots for the veggies and strawberries plus land for fruit trees and a gun for wild turkey, deer, etc. Plus a lot of work, canning and freezing to prepare for the off-seasons.

If there are enough, I'd have a hard time trusting that most humans would be responsible hunters. Don't forget about what happened to the buffalo.

Yeah, funny thing is most people will walk by a months worth of food looking for a deer to kill because they don't know any better. You would be amazed if you knew how much stuff you can eat in the middle of the desert. Here we have a lot of antelope at least. Water is going to be a big problem here in the west (like it always has).

I think there is a bit more to the story that we are not going to be told.

Start growing your own, teach your children how to grow and pick wild foods, buy locally when you can. It could get to a point that your very survival may be in your own hands.

I don't know about food shortage in the U.S. but hang on to your wallet.
Early in the year farm experts were talking about the delicate balance of corn and soybean production due to increased demand for corn for ethonal.
Due to a late spring and heavy rains many, many acres of corn have not been planted in Iowa. Also, continuing rainfall has flooded and washed out many more acres of planted corn. Normally, when it is too late to plant corn or corn gets flooded out soybeans are planted in place of corn, but the rain continues. It is now getting too late to plant anything. So much for modern farming technology!!
There will be a shortage of corn and beans. Be prepared for all food prices to jump.

If I remember correctly, the federal government used to pay farmers by the acre NOT to plant corn. I'm not certain, but I think that practice is still in play. If it is, it's time to stop doing that.

Also, foraging for wild plant food can be dangerous. There are plants that look edible but are poisonous. Certain mushroom and dandelion-look-a-likes come to mind. By the way, real Dandelions are very nutritious, easy to grow (too easy!), and all parts are edible.

I knew an old woman when I lived in Pennsylvania who used to rave about the wine she made from dandelions. I always saw her out in the yard picking them. I never did get to try any of that wine though.
