anyone else here play with the EEEPC?

Here's my current small computer. It's a Nokia N800...the operating system is a version of Linux and it has a touch-screen. Both Wi-Fi and bluetooth are built-in. I use Wi-Fi when it's available and when it isn't then the bluetooth communicates with my cellphone and the cellphone connects to the internet. It works so well...easy to set up too.
It's not big...but bigger than an iPhone: 5.6" X 3.0". It does videos, MP3's, maps (but does not have GPS built-in), podcasts, as well has FM radio. It even has good sounding stereo speakers, a so-so camera and 2 SD card slots. Currently I have over 3GB of storage on it. There are quite a few applications, games, etc being ported from other Linux environments for this device so there is plenty of ways to use it. But mainly it works great on the web.
The small size is the big selling point when it comes to TD camping!

for anyone who got the windows XP version--did it come with OpenOffice (the application that's better than Microsoft Office--Word, PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheets, etc.?)

I'm still going for the Linux version because of the larger memory, but just curious if they put openOffice on the XP version.

BTW, NewEgg has the eee PC 900 in stock in both colors, both operating systems...

I plan on converting my black on to XP, and yes it'll have either OpenOffice or something similar.

but I check for you later to see what it has, but I believe the Linux version has OpenOffice.

On my Windows XP Outlook Express,Skype,Microsoft Works,StarSuite 8,InterVideo DVD XP Pack,
Internet Explorer, Adobe Reader, Windows Live Mail this is what it came with. Star Suite is Impress,
Writer, Calc, Draw, Database.

I can confirm that the EEE PC has Open Office. 2.0 to be exact!

I also loaded Windows XP on the black one this morning as planned. Here's a picture of them side by side.



Seeing as how this baby pc will be for traveling, camping, and possibly to use at work during lunch, it was important that I get the VZ Access to work (the software for the cell modem) It worked perfectly on the XP setup. I've not attempted the same on the Linux eee PC.

So for anyone else who is considering getting an EEE PC, and you're not afraid to load up Windows, grab the Linux version. It has a 20 gig solid state harddisk instead of the 12 gig...

PDA sync -- prolly won't need it much for that after June 26th!!!!!

Will have to round up my XP Wherever it is!

Hey Mike...let me know if you get that XP eeePC working with your USB Modem. XP should work with that device just like it does on any other Windows PC.
Or better yet...if you figure out how to Linux recognize your USB Modem that would be better.
Is the XP eeePC fast enough for surfing? Do you use IE7.0 or Foxfire?
