Are we camping in OKLAHOMA this summer???!!!

Postby oklahomajewel » Sun Jun 15, 2008 8:33 pm

Okay Y'all .....

I should be getting my Jewel Box back in the swing of things around the end of JUNE. Forget camping on 4th of July weekend, it's always too crowded.

So y'all Okies (and of course the rest of the South Central is always welcome!!!!) where are we going to camp ... in July? August? September????

I was pleasantly surprised with Bell Cow Lake and it's three camping areas and it's right off the Turner Turnpike just down from Stroud.....
Don't know about y'all .... I'd like to camp somewhere new either Keystone or Skiatook or Oolagah..... have any of y'all camped at those? Or I thought Red Rock Canyon would be cooler in August, not a big lake or anything and it's about an hour west of OKC but right off the highway.

I haven't camped since Beavers Bend in April... so I know I'll go SOMEWHERE!!!!!
Come camping with me....

Julie

Sounds good to us. Even though our teardrop is still a long ways away from being completed, we still have our tent!

I was wondering why the water balloon was getting bigger... and then it hit me.

Hey Julie, I checked out Osage Hills State Park, it's a nice park about 8-10 miles west of Bartletsville in the middle of nowhere. They have a small lake for fishing, kayak, canoe, etc a swimming pool ,tennis court, and nice camp sites, plenty of trees. I don't know about reservations or such. I can't belive it's too crowded on a non holiday weekend. It would be a ways for Texans but close for the Jayhawkers and/or southwest MO.

Of course , we're a friendly bunch in the South Central and anybody is welcome.

Me and Karol talked before about a Red River Campout hopefully at Texoma Lake. I 've never camped there, the OK TX border runs right thru the lake. The only thing is that Lake Texoma State Park doesn't take reservations and actually there are a couple on the TX side that a closer to the border line... does anyone know about Eisenhower S.P , Cedar Bayou Park or ????

Osage Hills S.P... for y'all that don't know... It's about 30 miles maybe from the KS line , and straight north of Tulsa.

Well, it's lightening and storming but thank goodness -- cooling down outside here in OKC right now... but it will be hot and humid come July and August in Oklahoma .

so what? we're teardroppers!!!

Jewel,

We have stayed at Eisenhower State Park a couple of times. We tent camped and stayed at a site without power but the sites were nice and clean. I don't know anything about reservations though. We paid in advance and picked the spot when we got there. Where we stayed, the restrooms were a little ways away from us (Elm Point at site #172). I don't know what the RV sites are like.

Here are some pictures from one of our times there in November 2003: Texhoma 2003

Caddo Lake is an awesome lake a little deeper into TX right on the TX/LA border just North of I-20. It is the only natural Lake in TX and has spooky views with the Cypress trees growing up in the water. This is my favorite place. I know it is a trek but that's what I got fer ya right now. Here is a pic I took a few years ago there.

thanks 2bits... that looks a lot like the Lake Bistineau Cypresswood Gathering ... you need to make reservations for that one and be there around Halloween with us... It's the biggest teardroppin party of the south and a helluva birthday bash with Madjack front and center. I consider it a family reunion, the one where you actually WISH you were related to some of the folks!!!

I'm trying to scope out a spot at Texoma right now, to have a Red River campout on the OK/TX border.. maybe for Aug 1 or Aug 8.
