Roofing and Options

My grandpa and I noticed that the instructions (for the generic Benroy) do not include putting the roof on! We think that we need to use 1/8" to skin the top, but were concerned about making the curve (for the front) with anything thicker.

*Subquestion: has anyone used the uniflex 255 and used a smooth roller for a smooth finish? And how many coats do you typically get from the CPES and Uniflex product? Can I get them from a local source (orange box) or mail order only?

I don't know about a smooth finish from a roller. I think you'd have to spray for a smooth finish, and I don't know how to spray epoxy.

While at the Depot this morning getting my flooring, I was also looking at some 5mm Luan (thinking about the roof). 5MM is more than an 1/8, but less than 1/4. I was flexing it in the rack, and I think it might make the curves. On my reduced scale TD, the distance from the bottom of the front curve to the galley hinge is JUST less than 96"; so I could do it in one sheet (no seams). With copious amounts of Tite-Bond, some racheting tie downs and the brad nailer they have on sale; does anybody have an opinion on whether or not this will work? I plan on using CPES and then finishing with RED enamel on the roof (I have more than enough free red paint to do the roof!!).

Not sure what I'm going to do for the interior roof yet. I did look at some wainscoting paneling. I thought the horizontal stripes may make the interior look wider than it really is!!

You can allways double up the 1/8, to 1/4, if you want it thicker, I just did one layer, try to avoid HD luan, the glue joints in the sandwich are abit noticeable, atleast in mine.

did you have trouble with the plywood making the forming to the radius on the front?

Is it possible to get a smooth finish with the Uniflex 255?

I also saw the 5mm luann and bought a sheet of it to try for the roof. I am not sure if it will make my curve or not. I will try it and let everyone know.
