How many light circuits on your tear ?

Postby bobhenry » Mon Jun 23, 2008 6:33 am

I never concidered myself excessive or compulsive BUT 30 lights circuits on a little teardrop. Yep after spendind 2 days sorting out my wiring gremlins I decided to count the lights.

Galley hatch contains 11 I have redundent taillight (2 sets each side)
so I have 2 right turn/brake and 2 tail light circuits and the same for the left so thats 8 the galley dome is wired for ac and dc thats 2 more and the license plate light makes 11

there are 3 yellow and 1 red clearance lights each side thats 8 more

There is right and left porch lights ac and dc so thats 4 more
There are his and hers general lighting inside both ac and dc so thats 4 more.

My Black and Decker space saver under cabinet entertainment center has an ac undercounter light there's another 1
And I picked up 2 blue point mini driving lights that I installed as under chassis lighting for back up or breakdown lighting thats the final 2

Maybe there should be a poll " How many lights on your trailer "

Would seem to give "glow in the dark" a new meaning....

Seems like a lot of lights....

Postby texasdog » Mon Jun 23, 2008 5:50 pm

Still constructing - but I figure my light situation this way:

yellow corner lights: 4
red tail/stop/turn lights: 4
white reverse lights: 2
white license plate light: 1
white interior lights: 2
white exterior (left): 2
white exterior (right): 2
white galley: 1
white cargo boxes: 2

So that's 20 lights - 11 of which are basic trailer lights.

How many lights

Postby wlooper89 » Sun Jul 27, 2008 1:44 pm

My Little Guy has four running lights each side, four tail lights and a license plate light. A total of 13 original lights. I have added some D/C lights with separate wiring: two porch lights, two galley lights, 1 work light for the tongue area and 2 reading lights. This makes a 20 light total ,13 of whitch are basic trailer lights. Plus 4 D/C outlets.

The original trailer lights came with standard trailer wiring with chasis ground. I ran three 10 AWG cables back into the trailer. Each has its own positive and negative wire and a fuse for each circuit.

About the three D/C circuits I added: #1 is for the galley lights and porch lights, #2 is for the D/C outlets and reading lights. #3 is reserved for an AV center, not yet installed. The work light located near the battery connects directly to the battery through a switch and in-line fuse.

Back-up Lights

Postby wlooper89 » Sun Jul 27, 2008 2:20 pm

Thanks Texasdog for your mention of back-up lights. This started me wondering how many people have installed them and whether or not they are useful on a trailer. The Little Guy came without any, but the wire is there so it should not be too difficult to add them.

Thanks! Bill

I depends on your camping experience. If you tend to arrive at the campsite after dark, the back up lights come in real handy. My travel trailer had them and when you are trying to back up 58' of trailer and tow vehicle between the trees in the dark, they are a blessing. I plan on using them on my trailer.

My under chassis lights are pointed side to side just behind the axle set. They offer enough light to change a tire and still offer a soft glow so you can see when backing up in the dark. My history with tire trouble is becoming legendary among the Hoosier Tearjerker Chapter. God love HF's DUCO tires because I sure don't.
