The Galley is done!

Postby Creamcracker » Sun Jun 29, 2008 3:44 pm

I still have the hatch to do and the lower skin but the galley is done! Stained and finished the way I wanted it. On the shelf to the left the toaster oven will sit and to the right under the half shelf the gas grill will sit during travel. All in all I got done today what I wanted. When the lower skin is put on then there is storage space since the shelf to the right of the sink is removable. Philip

...very nice Philip...as they say, the devil is in the details and yours are great...I'm not a fan of sinks because of the room they take up on the counter, your placement of it in that dead spot is a great use of available space  :applause:

Yeah I wasn't sure about the need for the sink but I decided to go ahead with it -- more out of my need to see if I could actually plumb it in etc.

A Janitors sink is usuall close to the floor to aid in wringing out mops and such. It will help when you need to mop and wax the floors.

Just Kidding it a cool location :D

What size is your water tank and how is the drain on the sink work? (The placement to me is curious since I usually sit my water jug on a stump or bench.)

That looks great Philip! I really like the sign on the far right...nice with the woody. I'm with others on the sink placement. I think it's a perfect use of a dead space. Do you have shelves in the cabinets or just full open? Doug

The water tank is a ten gallon -- I intend to put water in at the campsite only -- not going to travel with water aboard. The storage tank is beneath the floor in the two left cabinets. The drain for the sink will actually be straight down/out through the skin which will be on the back. I know -- I'll have to put a bucket under that -- but as I said above the sink placement and layout was as much an exercise as anything else. We probably won't use the sink much --- maybe to rinse hands--- but I wanted the faucet so that we had a water source for copious cups of tea! :)

Right now I have open space in the cabinets. However the floor of the far right is the top of an ice cooler -- we have a bag/case that holds our cups/saucers/plates/cutlery which fits and fills that cabinet. When we get to the campsite the bag holding all of them comes out and gives us open access to the cooler. Under the cabinets to the left is the water tank. At this point I have left them open but we will probably put a shelf in there once we determine exactly what we are going to carry and where. I'll post some pics tomorrow when I get home from work. Thanks for all your encouragement. My wife Carol, is starting to work on the interior furnishings. These will continue with the Route 66 theme.

As promised some pics of the sink area:

Image

With the two left doors open you see the floor of the kitchen cabinets which can be removed
Image

When they are lifted up I have access to the water tank area

There is some storage area also -- that's where the hose pipe and nozzle are stored.
Image

The sink drains straight down and out through the back panel...(what do you call those curved bits that are low down?)
Image
There's also some storage space in the area to the right of the sink

Hope this helps.
