Couldn't hold out any longer

Postby Moe » Sun Jun 29, 2008 5:52 pm

I've been watching this forum for quite a while but since I don't have a teardrop or started building one yet I didn't want to butt in, but I couldn't hold back any longer to comment on some of the topics. I am retired and live in the NW Atlanta area but when the housing market settles down I may be able to sell my home here and move close to my daughter in South Central Tennesse (Tullahoma/Winchester). Then with the help of my son-in-law who is an excellent welder I (we) can start a build.

Well gee Moe, what took you so long?

Welcome to the forum... I expect you to jump in and start commenting now...if not sooner!

And as a side note, what are you thinking about building? A Benroy? A Modernistic? A Wild Goose?

Mike...

The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...

Welcome,
My folks still live in Marietta, closer to Kennesaw really but they have a Marietta mailing address.

It's a decent area, I'm glad I moved away in the 90's though, it's a little crazy now adays down there.

Well I live about 1/2 way between Douglasville and Hiram for anyone familiar with the area, in South Paulding County which is I believe 7th in fastest growing counties in the US.
What to build. I like the looks of a Benroy but there are so many choices I haven't pinned one down yet. My desire is to build a 5 X 9 so I can have a Queen size bed. I want to keep it light though. I plan to use my 2004 Ford Ranger super cab/3.0 liter V6 4 X 2 to tow with. It has an automatic transmission but with the push of button you can lock out the overdrive which is suggested for towing (to keep from constant upshifts and downshifts, I blew a dodge PU automatic doing that but they are known for a weak trany). I checked the manual and it says tow weight max is 1170lbs and an combined gross vehicle weight of 2722 lbs. So I'll try to go to a gathering and check out other trailer weights and how they are equipped to guide me throught the unknown. I also checked the small SUV I have (Hyundai Tucson) and it can tow 2,000lbs with my 2.7L V6 and tongue weight of 150lbs. So that may be an option. The Hyundai automatic can be manually shifted which could help in some situations.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Welcome Moe, we just moved from Marietta. Wife took a job there so we left TX and relocated to GA. We were looking at buying a house in Acworth but after 2 months there, my wife got another job offer that she couldn't pass up, now we are in Colorado.

Get in touch with Marvin (Tearfan)with the Tearjerkers, they are having a gathering at High Falls State Park. I don't remember the date but it is either coming up or just recently passed. Go see some trailers for yourself. It will help a lot.

edit

Just looked at their schedule, I guess High Falls was June 20th. Their next campout is at Cloudland Canyon.
