New From Southern Indiana...

Postby ScubbaStv » Mon Jun 30, 2008 8:10 am

Good morning to all. I'm from Southern Indiana and have been bitten by the Teardrop bug. I've decided to build my own (Benroy style), and was wondering if anyone had some good tips for me seeing that I'm completely new at this. Thank you very much.

Your giving us Hoosiers a bad name how close to Kentucky are you ?

At the top " GENERIC BENROY PLANS"
all you can hope to need or want in the way of info.

Seriously it is a well though out approach with clear and concise directions many many members of this forum have built from this building aid.

Good luck and remember take lots of pictures.

I'm a relative rookie at this too; but I'll throw my two cents in any ways.

Bobhenry had some good advice. The Generic Benroy plans are worth their weight in gold. I keep them right on my desktop so I can refer to them whenever I have any doubts.

As far as the actual build... measure twice, put the saw down, step back, measure twice again and then and only then pick up the saw and cut!! Just kidding, but accurate measurements are important. Minor mistakes can be hidden. teardrop builders are good at that. But a way out of square box is not good!!

Also take pics while you're building..... lots and lots of pics. Even if you don't share them here, you will be glad to have them if you have to go back and see where you put a screw or wire that's no longer visible.

Oh yeah..... and definitely ask questions. Nobody here has bitten my head off for asking questions. At one time or another, I'm sure every conceivable problem has cropped up in somebody's build. The people here will come up with a suggestion or a solution.

Welcome.....

I think the Benroy is a great choice. We built mostly from the plans here, with some modifications to fit our needs. It's also a 5x8 on a Northern Tool Carry-On trailer.
