WHEN DO I DO ALL THE ELECTRICAL ON MY BENROY

Postby TD_Dodger » Tue Jul 01, 2008 1:03 pm

QUICK NEWBIE QUESTION HERE. WHEN DO I START PLACING ALL THE ELECTRICAL BEFORE I START THE CONTRUCTION DURING OR AFTER? I HAVE THE FRAME STRIPPED DOWN AND I AM CURRENTLY SANDING ALL THE RUST OFF.

Once you have "framework" in place, run your wires "sometime" before you close up walls for final time.... Just leave wires poking out appropriate holes or "outlet" boxes so switches and fixtures and receptacles can be wired after final "finish is applied to walls and ceilings....

Like they said...

Depending on where you are running your wires, determines when you run them.

A typical Benroy has some wires run under the chassis, some in the roof, and some in the hatch.

I will say that Mary K's advice is very good.

It takes some preplanning. That is knowing what you want and where you are going to put it. Then it's pretty much like any other wiring job. You have your rough in. Which is to run your wires. This is done with everything exposed. One word of advise here, don't skimp on the wires. Make sure you leave plenty of extra wiring hanging out. You can always make them shorter but is a pain if you need to make them longer. Fixtures and Switches can be added later after it's all buttoned up. Test all of your connections before you close it in. It's a good idea to make a drawing of where the wires are run so you don't cut any of them with fasteners when you close the walls in. Putting screws or nails through your wires after they are run will ruin your day. Have fun and go slow. If you are not sure about anything, get some help. Peace.
